The Guest Lectures Committee started its academic year with a brand new series “Careers & Conversations”, an exclusive opportunity for students to engage with eminent speakers from diverse backgrounds as they reflect upon their personal and professional journeys.

The Guest Lectures Committee invited Dr. Raman Ramachandran, Director of KJ Somaiya Institute of Management as the first speaker of this inaugural series to talk about ‘Coincidences and Choices’. The event was hosted by Mr. Arun Thukral, a Professor of Practice and Head - Corporate Relations at K J Somaiya Institute of Management.

The talk began with Dr. Raman explaining how he made the first important choice of his career - Agriculture. Dr. Raman mentions another incident of Choice between a good normal comfortable life in a Class - A government job and research works in Kenya and Philippines, of which he chose the latter. Talking about the risk of failures, Dr. Raman stressed on moving out of one’s comfort zone and taking on bigger risks to get bigger payoffs. Dr. Raman sees competitive sports as a method to better oneself, to always be on your toes.

Emphasizing on team work, He talked about having the right team members and co-creating enabling environments, goals and aspirational targets alongside them. He has a great passion for change management, which is largely visible in K J Somaiya Institute of Management.

Dr. Raman mentioned about an Invisible Hand, of luck, coincidences and blessings, that everyone must recognise and respect.
The event ended with a Q&A session.
