The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay is a home to some of the brightest and most aware minds young technical minds of India. It is these minds that will carry the country in the next century and the question of energy is undoubtedly one of the largest questions they will have to address. Consequently, there are many students on campus highly conscious and concerned about the future of energy

and sustainability. However, such students are separated by virtue of belonging to different disciplines and years. It is the need for a common platform for such students to come together and turn their concern into action, which brought the Energy Club into existence. A group of energy conscious students with the backing of the faculty decided to start a formal Club that would make energy awareness and action it’s priority and combine the ideas and concern of students across campus into tangible steps towards energy and sustainability.

🌍 On 5th June, World Environment Day, a felicitation ceremony was held at the Suzlon Headquarters to honor the winners of Renewathon – National Sustainability Challenge. The winning teams were:

🥇 1st Place: Team RenewSys – IIT Bombay
🥈 2nd Place: Team VIP – SBES College of Arts & Commerce College, Aurangabad
🥉 3rd Place: Team Magnus Opus – UPES Dehradun

The teams were recognized for their innovative and impactful solutions in the field of sustainability. The event marked the successful conclusion of Renewathon – National Sustainability Challenge and celebrated the dedication, creativity, and commitment demonstrated by participants throughout the competition.

The Energy & Sustainability Club, IIT Bombay, was also honored with a commemorative memento from Suzlon in recognition of its efforts in organizing and managing the challenge. We are grateful to Suzlon for their support and collaboration in making Renewathon – National Sustainability Challenge a success and for inspiring students to contribute towards a more sustainable future.

An Unforgettable Visit to Suzlon Knowledge Center!

We had an incredible experience at Suzlon Knowledge Center, Satara, diving deep into renewable energy innovations. From Suzlon’s 19 GW global capacity to insights on design, manufacturing, commissioning, and operations, the learning was immense.

Key takeaways:
• SCADA at One Earth monitors all windmills (except Australia).
• Hybrid lattice and tubular structures for better efficiency.
• S144 (3MW) turbine is the latest in use.
• Offshore turbines generate 4-5x more (20-28 MW).
• Induction generators for high capacity (>1500 kW).
• Blade length (72m), drivetrain, tower support, and aerodynamics play a key role.
