Report on Workshop: "Advances in Insect Identification"

The Department of Zoology, Sanatan Dharma College, successfully organized a one-day workshop on "Advances in Insect Identification" on 9th May 2025. The event was conducted in the college seminar hall and witnessed active participation from students, research scholars, and faculty members.
The workshop commenced with a formal inaugural session. Professor Shekhar Chand, Head of the Department of Zoology, delivered the opening address and inaugurated the lecture. He emphasized the significance of insect taxonomy in ecological research, pest management, and biodiversity conservation.
The resource person for the workshop was Dr. Dinesh Kumar Bharadwaj, a renowned entomologist known for his contributions to insect systematics and biodiversity studies. In his keynote lecture, Dr. Bharadwaj provided in-depth insights into traditional and modern methods of insect identification, including morphological analysis, DNA barcoding, and the use of digital tools and software. His session highlighted the importance of accurate insect identification in ecological monitoring and agricultural practices.
Following the lecture, a practical demonstration session was conducted where students had the opportunity to observe insect specimens under microscopes and use identification keys and digital resources under the expert guidance of Dr. Bharadwaj.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Piyush Sharma, who appreciated the efforts of the organizing team and extended gratitude to Dr. Bharadwaj for his valuable contribution. He also thanked the participants for their enthusiastic involvement.
Overall, the workshop was highly informative and provided a rich learning experience for all attendees. It successfully sparked curiosity and interest in the field of entomology among students and young researchers.
