With the Divine blessings of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the School of Life Sciences and Life Sciences Departments, Mysuru, conducted the UG Deeksharambh 2026 – Student Induction Program for the newly admitted undergraduate students of the School of Life Sciences, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru, was organized to formally welcome the freshers and familiarize them with the institution's academic environment, research culture, and student support systems. The program was conducted in accordance with the objectives of the UGC's Deeksharambh Student Induction Program, introducing students to the values, vision, and opportunities available at JSS AHER on 03rd August 2026.
The program commenced with an invocation rendered by Ms. Sahana, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Dr Raveesha K A, Head, SLSM and Dean, FLS, JSS AHER, Mysuru. The dignitaries then inaugurated the program with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS AHER, Mysuru, addressed the gathering and highlighted the rich legacy of JSS, which has more than 70 years of excellence in education. He encouraged the students to make the best use of the academic expertise of the faculty members and emphasized the importance of regular attendance, knowledge acquisition, and skill development. He also spoke about the excellent academic infrastructure, co-curricular activities, and various opportunities available to students for their overall development.
Dr. Vishal Kumar Gupta, Dean (Academics), JSS AHER, Mysuru, highlighted the significance of Deeksharambh, explaining its role in helping students transition smoothly into university life. He informed the gathering that around 650 students had enrolled in the undergraduate programs this academic year. He highlighted the institution's emphasis on integrating research with the curriculum, promoting interdisciplinary learning, and providing industry-embedded training to nurture innovation, creativity, and professional competence among students.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. H. Basavangowdappa, Vice Chancellor, JSS AHER, Mysuru, who inspired the students with his motivational speech. He spoke about the vision and mission of JSS and the institution's commitment to providing quality education. He highlighted various student support initiatives, including free educational assistance and hostel facilities for deserving students. Stressing the importance of the Life Sciences, he encouraged students to actively participate in laboratory work, research activities, conferences, seminars, and innovation programs. He urged students to cultivate scientific thinking, analytical skills, teamwork, ethical values, empathy, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies. Encouraging them to dream big, remain curious, strive for excellence every day, and he encouraged the students to become responsible professionals and contribute meaningfully to society.
An overview of the School of Life Sciences was presented by Dr. Mohan T. C, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, who introduced the students to the academic programs, research facilities, laboratories, and various opportunities available within the School. Dr. Vadiraj K. T, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science, briefed the students on the activities and significance of the National Service Scheme (NSS), while Dr.Lingaraju H. G, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Science, highlighted the objectives and benefits of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). Mrs. Ranjitha from the Information Technology Department provided an overview of the institution's IT services, including the student portal, digital learning resources, Wi-Fi connectivity, and other technology-enabled academic support facilities, encouraging students to make effective use of these services throughout their academic journey. Dr. Charukesi, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, served as the Master of Ceremony.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Gopenath T S, Professor & Coordinator, Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, SLS, Mysuru, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, organizing committee, and students for making the induction program a grand success.
