The Institution was founded as a Trust in 1919 by Dharmaprakasha Rao Bahadur Sahukar D. Banumaiah, a leading businessman of the erstwhile princely State of Mysore. His was an extraordinary, inspiring tale of rags to riches. As a young man, he strived hard to earn his livelihood. Sheer assiduousness and rectitude moulded him into a successful merchant. Owing to dearth and deprivation, he

could no

t get formal education, but he had a propensity to help the unfortunate children get enlightenment through education. He started a small school way back in the first decade of the twentieth century, which later grew into a high school and collegiate school. He bequeathed almost every thing of his hard-earned wealth for charitable purposes. Dharmaprakasha D. Banumaiah’s worthy son D.B. Vishwambharaiah and illustrious grandson B.V. Banumaiah were instrumental in establishing the College, which was hailed as the only private Commerce college in the princely state of Mysore. B.V. Banumaiah, the Founder-Principal of the College, was adept at recognizing and recruiting outstanding men and women of erudition with a flair for moulding the young minds by their inimitable teaching technique. The college, started with only commerce faculty in the beginning, had Bachelor of Arts course as an adjunct in 1959, and got permanent affiliation from the University of Mysore in 1966. Later, B.B.M. course was also started in 1975-76. Principal Banumaiah, an administrator par excellence, man of grand vision and unrivalled penchant for excellence and achievement, died in 1974, but the solid, robust foundation he laid for the all round development of the College is being augmented continuously. His ideals and ideologies are the beacon light for us to follow, improve and innovate in the changing times. He was the paramount paradigm for perfection and accomplishment. Countless alumni and alumnae of this prestigious College have been magnificent achievers and attained the pinnacle of success in the fields of business, banking, politics, fine arts et al.
