Dharmsinh Desai University, Nadiad Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology was founded in 1968 as an institution of higher learning in Prof. D O Shah as its founding director.

History
Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology (DDIT) was founded in 1968 by Dharmsinh Dadubhai Desai, who then was a Member of Parliament, as an institution of higher learning in the field of Engineering and Technology. It achieved autonomous status under Gujarat University in 1991, and Deemed University status in June 2000. In 2005 the institute achieved full university status and was renamed a

s Dharmsinh Desai University (DDU). The university started a bachelor's course in Dental Surgery from 2005. It is the first university of gujarat to get permission of start a Nanotechnology course from 2012. Status
DDU achieved autonomous university status in 1991 which meant it could conduct exams and not follow the parent university Gujarat University examination schedule (though the degree certificate awarded still retained the name of Gujarat University). It achieved a Deemed University status in June 2000, which meant that the degree certificates show that they are awarded from DDIT. In April 2005, DDIT achieved full university status and was renamed as DDU which is an abbreviation for Dharmsinh Desai University. H.B Dave was the first head of the Computer Science department. The Faculty of Technology of DDU is headed by Dr P A Joshi as Dean. The Faculty of Technology has been recognised as Anchor Institute for the Chemical and Petrochemical Sector by Industries Commission of Gujarat State. It has established the Shah-Schulman Centre for Surface Science and Nanotechnology with Prof. The centre has been sanctioned by the Department of Industries and Mines, Government of Gujarat and has industries like Asian Paints Ltd. and Sun Pharmaceuticals Ltd. as its industrial founding members.

Friends, 1st January is the foundation day of Dharmsinh Desai University. University has planned to celebrate this great day in grand manner. University has dedicated this day to society. Students (alumni too), staff and guests are going to pledge for Eye Donation. As great number is going to pledge it is likely to make a world record, so, DDU would be breaking a record, it is going to be Guinness World Record. Friends, as an alumnus it’s time to show gratitude to our alma mater, so let us pledge for ‘Eye Donation’ on 1st January, 2013. By filling up this form you show your consent for the pledge and the details will be used to create your pledge card. But please be present and fill up the pledge form at Dharmsinh Desai University on 1st January, 2013 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Guinness World Record category we are going to attempt for is “The most people to sign up as organ donors in 8 hours”. The latest record is of 2,262 people and our target is 5,000 people.
Your initiative, your presence, your pledge, will create a history. Consent I want to join the ‘Eye Donation Pledge Campaign’ organized by Dharmsinh Desai University, Gujarat with the support of Eye Bank Association of India, Hyderabad. Please note that you have to be present on 1st January, 2013 at DDU Campus for the pledge. If it is possible for you to be present then fill up the online form by following the link given or the attached doc file.
You need to pledge for this noble cause as “I desire that my eyes be donated within 6 hours of my death. I have informed my relatives about my decision. My age is 18 years or above and I take responsibility of this decision.”
