Program Report

World Breastfeeding Week Awareness Programme (1–7 August 2026)

Sir Isaac Newton Siddha Medical College & Hospital, Nagapattinam,organized a World Breastfeeding Week Awareness Programme on 3rd August 2026 to create awareness about the importance of breastfeeding among mothers and the general public.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. P. K. Nirmal Kumar, M.D.(S), Assistant Professor,

As part of the programme, an awareness session was conducted highlighting the importance of:

* Early initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth.
* Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.
* Continued breastfeeding up to two years or beyond along with complementary feeding.
* Health benefits of breastfeeding for both the baby and the mother.

The students Ms. K. Keerthana and Ms. E. Mahalakshmi, Second Professional BSMS, actively participated by delivering awareness talks and interacting with the audience. Awareness posters and educational materials were displayed, and the participants were encouraged to support and promote breastfeeding practices in the community.

The programme concluded with an awareness message emphasizing that “Breast Milk is Love – A Gift That Lasts a Lifetime.” The event was well received by the participants and successfully promoted the importance of breastfeeding for a healthier future.
