DATA MANIPULATION AND STATISTICAL FOUNDATIONS
Nagpur, December 9, 2025: The Department of Computer Science at Shri Mathuradas Mohota College of Science, Nagpur, successfully concluded Day 2 of the one-week AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) sponsored Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Data Science with Python." The programme, running from December 8th to 13th, 2025, in the College's IT Lab, aims to upgrade faculty expertise in this cutting-edge field.
The day’s proceedings commenced with Dr. Shweta Shirpurkar, Head of the Computer Science Department, formally welcoming the distinguished resource person. The technical sessions were conducted by Dr. Poorva Agrawal, Assistant Professor (Sr. Grade) from Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Nagpur, who brings 14 years of rich academic experience and Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, from Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Nagpur with 13 years of experience.
The sessions were efficiently hosted by internal faculty members, Ms. Manasi Sadhankar and Dr. Deepti Malviya, Assistant Professors from the Computer Science department.
Key Highlights of Day 2:
Morning Session (9:30 AM – 12:00 PM): Dr. Agrawal conducted an intensive, hands-on session on “Importing Data & Manipulating Data.” The module focused on mastering critical data wrangling techniques using Python’s Pandas library, which is fundamental for cleaning and preparing real-world data for analysis.
Academic Discussion (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM): Following the lecture, participants engaged in a focused Article Discussion on the research paper, “Machine Learning made easy: A review of Scikit-learn Package in python programming language,” published in the Journal of Education and Behavioural Statistics (2019).
Afternoon Session (2:00 PM – 4:30 PM): The final technical session of the day covered “Statistics Basics & Error Metrics.” This module was crucial in providing the participants with the statistical understanding required to interpret data and accurately evaluate the performance of machine learning models.
The Department of Computer Science extended its sincere gratitude to Dr. Agrawal and Dr. Kaur for their valuable contribution.

Inaugural Program – One-Week AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Sponsored Faculty Development Program on ‘Data Science with Python’ 8th December 2025 | Shree Mathuradas Mohota College of Science, Nagpur
The inaugural ceremony of the One-Week AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Sponsored Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Data Science with Python’ was held on 8th December 2025 at 10:00 AM in Room 3 at Shree Mathuradas Mohota College of Science, Nagpur.The program began with the Maharashtra Rajyageet, followed by the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. The event was graced by Hon. Principal Dr. Jeevan Dontulwar, Chief Guest Dr. Girish Katkar, Head, Taywade College,Nagpur; Guest of Honour Dr. Vaibhav Bhedi, Head, MCA Department, VMV College, Nagpur; and Resource Person Mr. Parag Bobhate, Project Manager, Widesoft Pvt. Ltd. , HOD Computer Science Dr. Shweta Mankar, and IQAC Coordinator Dr. Vijay Soman were also present.A series of felicitations followed:

There were 50 participants from different colleges & 20 faculty members of computer science Department were present. The Principal then addressed the participants, highlighting the importance of emerging technologies and continuous faculty upskilling. Ms. Rishika Pali, FDP Secretary, briefly outlined the objectives and schedule of the one-week ATAL-sponsored FDP. This was followed by insightful addresses from the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, emphasizing the relevance of Python and Data Science in today’s academic and industrial landscape. The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Mansi Sadhankar, followed by the National Anthem.

The Department of Physics organized an educational study tour to Raman Science Centre & Planetarium, Nagpur on 13th November 2025 (Thursday) under the guidance of the Physics Society In-charge, Mr. Aditya V. Tiwari, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics. The tour aimed to enhance students’ conceptual understanding through firsthand exposure to scientific demonstrations, laboratory-based models, and modern technological exhibits.
A group of 18 enthusiastic students from the Department of Physics participated in the tour, accompanied by the following faculty members:
• Prof. J. N. Ramteke, Head, Department of Physics
• Dr. S. G. Goswami
• Dr. D. V. Nandanwar
• Mr. G. C. Vandile
Their presence ensured academic guidance, discipline, and effective coordination throughout the visit. The visit allowed students to explore a variety of physics-based exhibits at the Science Centre. Students thoroughly enjoyed hands-on Physics experiments, which greatly captivated their interest and helped them relate classroom concepts to real-world applications.
The Science on Sphere session offered an impressive visual understanding of global scientific data, while the 3-D Show and Planetarium Show provided extraordinary and immersive learning experiences. The astronomy-based visuals stimulated scientific curiosity and broadened the students’ understanding of space, motion, and celestial phenomena.
The study tour concluded joyfully with a Tiffin-party lunch and snacks, allowing students and teachers to interact informally and share their learning experiences.
Overall, the tour was a highly successful academic activity, enriching students’ scientific outlook, strengthening their conceptual clarity, and motivating them toward deeper engagement with Physics. The Department appreciates the enthusiastic participation of students and the sincere efforts of all faculty members involved.

A guest lecture and practical training session on "groundwater perspective through geophysical methods" was organized by the Department of Geology at Shri Mathuradas Mohota College of Science in Nagpur on 25/09/2025. Dr. Roshan Rathod was invited as the guest speaker for this lecture. He provided guidance to the students on various geophysical techniques that are currently available. Additionally, a Geological Society was established during the program. Dr. Sanjeevani Jawadand welcomed the guest as a gesture of appreciation, while Dr. Sumeet Chavhan introduced him in the presence of Dr. Nalanda Taksande. Saving nature’s clean-up crew: Mohota Science College hosts vulture awareness programme
Department of Zoology and Environment Protection Cell of Nagpur Shikshan Mandal’s Shri Mathuradas Mohota College of Science, Nagpur, celebrated International Vulture Awareness Day on 9 September 2025, with the aim of spreading awareness about the ecological importance of vultures and the urgent need for their conservation. The programme was conducted as a part of the memorandum of understanding between the college and Maharashtra Forest Department, Nagpur Forest Division.
A panel discussion was the highlight of the programme, which featured Shri Nandkishor Raut, Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry Division, Nagpur, Shri Vivek Rajurkar, Range Forest Officer, East Pench, Shri Manan Singh Mahadev, Conservation Biologist, Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), and Shri Avinash Londhe, Honorary Wildlife Warden, Nagpur District. The panellists discussed at length several critical questions which included the significance of vultures in ecology and human health, status of Indian vulture species, reasons for drastic decline of vulture population, conservation measures, and contribution of local communities in conservation.
The students including Mr. Amitkumar Choudhary, Ms. Shruti Moglewar, Ms. Riya Rehpade, and Ms. Shravani Purohit put forth engaging questions which led to a thought-provoking discussion.
The programme was attended by around 70 students and teachers, reflecting strong participation and interest in environmental issues.
The event was conducted by Ms. Shamali Khalatkar, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, while Dr. Nikhil Palande, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, and the brain behind this programme delivered the introductory remarks, setting the context for the day. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Jeevan Dontulwar, Principal of the college, who emphasized the role of vultures in maintaining ecological balance and the responsibility of youth in conservation. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Vaishali Badiye, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.

"Teaching is a Mission, Not a Profession" – Anil Sole

"Teaching is not a profession, but a sacred mission," said former MLA Mr. Anil Sole.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the College Foundation Day celebration organized by Shri Mathuradas Mohota Science College, Nagpur.

He further said that Mohota Science College is progressing in the right direction and expressed his pride in being an alumnus of the institution. The event was presided over by Engineer Mohit Shah, President of Nagpur Shikshan Mandal.

On this occasion, noted entrepreneur in the field of Information Technology Mr. R. Ramakrishnan addressed the audience as Guest of Honour. He encouraged the younger generation to take initiatives in innovation, artificial intelligence, and environmental sustainability.

Also present on the dais were Vice President of Nagpur Shikshan Mandal Mr. Vikas Binzani, Secretary Adv. Rajiv Dev, and Principal Dr. Jeevan Dontulwar.

Other distinguished office-bearers of the Nagpur Shikshan Mandal including Mr. Mahesh Agrawal, Adv. Rajendra Rathi, Mr. Chandrashekhar Chandak, Mr. Mathuradas Panpaliya, Mr. Madhusudan Binzani, Dr. Vijaya Khanjode, Dr. Y.S. Deshpande, Former Principal Dr. Shivaji Jivaji, and Principals and Heads from sister institutions of the Mandal were also present.

During the event, Principal Dr. Jeevan Dontulwar presented a detailed progress report of the college. Dr. Deoram Nandanwar introduced the Chief Guest.

As part of the celebration, outstanding faculty members and non-teaching staff who significantly contributed to the college’s development were felicitated by the dignitaries.
