Workshop on “Aryabhata Satellite and Space Science”

A workshop on “Aryabhata Satellite and Space Science” was successfully organized on March 27, 2026, at the DSB Campus by Department of Physics, in collaboration with the U. R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), ISRO, Bengaluru. The event was held to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Aryabhata satellite launch, celebrating five decades of India’s remarkable achievements in space exploration. Prof. Ramesh Chandra from the Department of Physics was the coordinator of the workshop

Primarily designed for students from classes 8 to 12, the workshop witnessed the participation of around 450 students from several reputed schools, including Bharatiya Shaheed Sainik Vidyalaya, Sherwood College, St. Mary’s Convent College, Mohan Lal Sah Bal Vidya Mandir, Sanwal School, All Saints’ College, G.B. Pant I.C. Bhawali, GGIC Bhawali, GGIC Nainital, Naincy Convent School Jeolikote, Woodbridge School Bhimtal, and Ashdale School Nainital.

Inauguration and Sessions

The program commenced at 10:00 AM with the traditional lighting of the lamp and the national anthem. During the inaugural session, Prof. Shuchi Bisht, Head of the Department of Physics, welcomed the visiting experts and students. The session was conducted by Prof. Ramesh Chandra and concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sanjay Pant, Dean of the Faculty of Science.

The core of the workshop included technical sessions led by distinguished scientists from ISRO:
• Engineer A. Rajendra shared in-depth insights into satellite engineering and the history of ISRO missions.
• Dr. K. Sankarasubramanian delivered a special lecture on the Aditya-L1 mission.
• Dr. Bhuvan Joshi discussed observational space science and solar physics.
• Dr. Aravind Kumar highlighted important aspects of astronaut health and life-support systems.

Interactive Activities and Conclusion

Following the technical sessions, the afternoon segment was dedicated to interactive activities aimed at fostering creativity and scientific thinking among students. These included a space quiz, extempore speech, spot painting, and a memory test.

The workshop concluded at 4:00 PM with a valedictory and prize distribution ceremony, where students’ achievements and their growing interest in space research were appreciated.
