3 dead, 2 injured in accident at Sriperumbudur

Chennai: In a tragic road mishap, three persons were killed and two seriously injured after the four-wheeler they were travelling in, rammed into a parked lorry at Santhavelur in Sunguvarchatram near Sriperumbadur, this morning.
According to the police, three professors and a lab assistant of Mahendra Engineering College in Thiruchengode in Nammakal were travelling in a car with driver Babu (46) to Anna University and had left from Thiruchengode at around 9 pm.
The occupants of the car have been identified as Jagadeeshan (31), an Asst Professor of Mechanical Engineering department, Senthilkumar (30) Asst Professor of Electrical Engineering department, Mahadevan (33) Asst Professor of Information Technology department and Theygarajan, a lab assistant.
The police said early this morning, the fatal mishap occurred after the car rammed into a lorry parked on the road side killing Senthilkumar, Mahadevan and Theyagarajan on the spot.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the mishap occurred at around 4 am near Maharishi International School. The lorry driver had parked the vehicle on the road and had gone to attend a nature's call. After a few minutes after he walked away from the vehicle, the four-wheeler rammed into it.
The lorry was transporting crates of beer, the police said. Sunguvarchatram police arrived at the spot and pressed a crane into service to revive the victims from the mangled vehicle.
While the bodies of Senthilkumar, Mahadevan and Theyagarajan were sent to Sriperumbudur Government Hospital, Babu was rushed to Chengalpet Government Hospital and Jagadeshan was taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for treatment. Both are reportedly in serious conditions.
The families of the victims are arriving at the city from Thiruchengode. In the meantime, Sunguvarchatram have registered a case. The police suspect Babu would have slept at the wheel
