Sikkim Alpine University Hosts Integrated Health Campaign in Collaboration with Drishti NGO and SSACS
KAMRANG, SOUTH SIKKIM — September 24, 2026 — Sikkim Alpine University successfully conducted an Integrated Health Campaign (IHC) today at its Kamrang Campus in collaboration with Drishti NGO and the Sikkim State AIDS Control Society (SSACS). The initiative aimed to promote health awareness, early detection, and proactive healthcare management among students, faculty members, and administrative staff.
The health campaign received an encouraging response, with over 80 faculty members and students participating in comprehensive health check-ups and diagnostic screenings. The campaign provided essential screening services free of charge, along with professional medical counselling.
Key Screenings Conducted

• HIV Screening
• RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) Test
• HCV (Hepatitis C Virus) Test
• HBsAg (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen) Screening
• General Physical and Medical Check-up
The screenings and consultations were conducted by a dedicated team of healthcare professionals and community outreach workers, including:

Speaking on the outcome of the campaign, University officials expressed their sincere gratitude to the visiting healthcare team and collaborating organisations for bringing essential health services and awareness initiatives directly to the University campus.
The successful conduct of the campaign was made possible through the enthusiastic cooperation and active participation of the faculty members, students, and staff of Sikkim Alpine University, as well as the dedicated efforts of Drishti NGO and SSACS.

Namchi, September 22, 2026: The Department of Pharmacy, Sikkim Alpine University, Kamrang, conducted an awareness programme marking the culmination of the 6th Pharmacovigilance Week, observed from September 17 to 22, 2026. The programme aimed to create awareness among the students and faculty members of the university about the importance of pharmacovigilance, including Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting and monitoring, medicine safety, and the rational use of medicines.
The programme was attended by Dr. Subhankar Gurung, Director, IQAC, Heads/In-charges of various departments, faculty members and students from different departments of the university.
The programme was hosted by Ms. Mridula Rai, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy. The welcome address and felicitation of the dignitaries were carried out by Ms. Tila Rupa Chettri, HOD/In-charge, Department of Pharmacy, who welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members and students and highlighted the significance of the Pharmacovigilance Week.
The main awareness session was delivered by Ms. Tshering Doma Bhutia, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy. She provided an informative overview of pharmacovigilance, its significance and the importance of monitoring medicine safety. She explained Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), ADR monitoring, the process of reporting suspected adverse reactions, and the role of pharmacovigilance in promoting the safe and rational use of medicines.
As part of the awareness initiative, students of the B.Pharm programme actively participated in the distribution of informative pamphlets among the attendees. The pamphlets focused on ADR monitoring and medicine safety, helping to spread awareness and reinforce the importance of reporting adverse drug reactions and using medicines responsibly.
An interactive session was also conducted, during which students actively participated and raised questions related to pharmacovigilance, ADRs, ADR reporting and medicine safety. The session provided an opportunity for participants to clarify their understanding and engage with the faculty.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Subhankar Gurung, Director, IQAC, appreciated the efforts of the Department of Pharmacy in organising the awareness programme and highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting health awareness and responsible medicine-use practices among the university community.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Likipu K. Zhimo, a first-year B.Pharm student, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members and students for their presence and active participation.
The programme marked the successful culmination of the 6th Pharmacovigilance Week observed from September 17 to 22, 2026, and concluded with a group photograph of the dignitaries, faculty members and students.

The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Club, in collaboration with the Department of Geography, Sikkim Alpine University, organised a Training and Awareness Programme on Solid Waste Management on 19 September 2026 at the Kamrang Campus.

The programme was attended by Hon’ble Registrar Shri Satyam Dixit,Dean, Academic Affairs Dr. Pribat Rai,Assistant Dean Dr. Manorama Thapa,Director, IQAC Dr. Subhankar Gurung and faculty members.

Shri Rajiv Rai, Senior Scientific Officer, State Pollution Control Board, Sikkim,served as the Resource Person and delivered an informative session on Solid Waste Management and environmental responsibility. The programme included an interactive discussion and felicitation of the Resource Person, followed by a Vote of Thanks.

**Invitation and Participation in the Final Round of the State-Level Red Ribbon Club Quiz Competition – 2026**

Ms. Prashanti Pradhan, Nodal Teacher, Red Ribbon Club, Sikkim Alpine University, was invited as the Special Guest for the Final Round of the State-Level Red Ribbon Club Quiz Competition – 2026, organised by the Red Ribbon Club Sikkim under the Sikkim State AIDS Control Society (SSACS), Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Sikkim. The event was held on 18th September 2026 (Friday) from 10:50 AM to 2:00 PM at Hotel The Golden Recurve, Purano Namchi, Namchi.

Ms. Pradhan attended the programme along with 10 students from the Department of Botany, Department of Commerce, and Department of Zoology, Sikkim Alpine University. The event brought together young talent from across the state to showcase their knowledge, confidence, and understanding of important health and social issues, with the State Champion team earning the opportunity to represent Sikkim at the Regional-Level Red Ribbon Club Quiz Competition in Shillong, Meghalaya.

During the programme, the organisers extended their gratitude to Sikkim Alpine University for its unwavering support over the years. In recognition of this continued association, Ms. Pradhan was felicitated by Mr. Phur Tshering Lepcha, Assistant Director, SSACS, Sikkim. As a gesture of goodwill on behalf of the Red Ribbon Club, Sikkim Alpine University, Ms. Pradhan presented a small token of appreciation to the winning team from Pelling Senior Secondary School.

The event served as a meaningful platform reflecting Sikkim Alpine University's ongoing commitment to public health awareness and community engagement.
