A proud moment for D Y Patil School of Architecture!

Our students have been recognised at the COA Students’ Awards for Excellence in Documentation of Architectural Heritage 2026, presenting their detailed documentation of Kolhapur under Zone 3.

Through measured drawings, mapping, visual documentation and cultural narratives, our students explored and documented the rich architectural heritage of Kolhapur.

A wonderful recognition of their dedication, teamwork and commitment towards heritage documentation and architectural research.

Colour, Composition & Visual Thought

Colour and composition constitute the fundamental grammar of visual art, shaping not only aesthetic experience but also the ways in which meaning is perceived and interpreted. From the symbolic palettes of ancient civilizations to the chromatic theories of the Renaissance, the expressive innovations of Modernism, and the conceptual practices of contemporary art, artists have employed colour to evoke emotion, construct atmosphere, and articulate cultural narratives. Composition—the deliberate orchestration of line, form, proportion, rhythm, balance, and spatial relationships—provides the structural framework that directs the viewer's gaze and establishes visual coherence. Together, these elements transcend decoration, functioning as intellectual and emotional devices that transform abstract ideas into compelling visual experiences. An enduring understanding of colour and composition remains indispensable to artistic practice, cultivating critical observation, conceptual clarity, and a sophisticated visual language that bridges tradition with contemporary expression.
