Disha - Academy of Competitive Sportbike Freestyle

Disha - Academy of Competitive Sportbike Freestyle NPO supported by Mumbai Traffic Police to break the negative stereotypes and build a platform to help stunt riders at all levels to develop as athletes.

With attitudes changing and the International Olympic Committee looking to expand and capture a more youthful, exuberant audience, a door has been opened for sports that offer something fresh and unconventional. In India opportunities are immense, but we usually lack proper track, equipment, qualified instructors and of course liberal regulations because of which kids are forced to play in the str

eets. This breeds negative stereotypes about the sport and it’s athletes in general. However, according to our observation, the top tier players are dedicated and enthusiastic young people who should be admired, not scorned. The rookies and amateurs are often the ones who stunt on public streets, many of whom are unaware of their true potential and how they can convert it for the greater good. At DISHA we aim to tap the street energy, filter, channelize and deliver it in a professional, safe and legal way by creating purpose-built recreational environments for practice. We are elated with pride to preconize the involvement of Mumbai Traffic Police in the venture, with the commissioner, Sri Milind Bharambe himself, extending his individual support to help us raise awareness and spread our messages and morals as an endeavour to bring a shift in people’s perspective and help create a platform for the youth to leverage their genius on the global stage, which else would be lost in oblivion.

To borrow and embellish an excerpt from Gorden L. Prescott's speech on the meaning of architecture, "We create emptiness through which motorcycles are to move." This leads us to a corollary of astronomical importance — to the unconditional acceptance of the premise that 'absence' is superior to presence. That is to the acceptance of non-acceptance. Let us be modest in the vast pride of this realization and reverent about the sublime. We wish all of you a Happy and Safe Deepavali :)

They might not think you are worthless, they simply don't care to find out if you are good. This video is going to give them a reason. Awe-inspiring and a must watch for every stunt enthusiast as one of the greatest filmmakers in Indian cinema shares how his perception about motorcycle stunt riding changed forever after meeting our officials. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the eminent Nishikant Kamat for standing with us and voicing his concerns. He spoke English words, but the resonant clarity of each syllable made it sound like a new language spoken for the first time. The voice of a giant. This video is going to pump you with pride as you share it with all those who never believed in you.
