The two-day BioTrail Symposium 2026 was inaugurated by Director Prof. J. N. Moorthy, marking an important milestone in the BioTrail summer research and discovery programme.

BioTrail is a two-month programme designed to provide scientific exposure and hands-on research experience to Master's students from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and the Northeast region of India who aspire to pursue careers in biological research. Through a combination of laboratory and field-based research, lectures, workshops, and close mentorship, the programme seeks to nurture the next generation of scientists.

An integral part of the two-month programme, the BioTrail Symposium brings together students, faculty members, and researchers for scientific discussions, knowledge exchange, and interactions with leading experts in biological sciences.

On World Environment Day, the School of Earth, Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (SEESS) at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram, hosted a special lecture by Prof. D. Nagesh Kumar, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on “Role of Geospatial Tools in Urban Climate Resilience.” The talk highlighted how spatial data and geospatial technologies can inform sustainable urban planning, climate risks, and disaster management. The lecture sparked lively discussion among faculty and students, and was presided over by Prof. J. N. Moorthy, Director of IISER Thiruvananthapuram.

Prof. J. N. Moorthy, Director, IISER TVM, inaugurated the Joint IIT Kanpur – IISER TVM Discussion Meeting on Advances in Chemical Science at IISER Thiruvananthapuram, bringing together researchers and faculty members from both institutions to discuss emerging areas in Chemical Science.

Researchers from diverse subdisciplines of Chemistry will deliver lectures over the two-day meeting. The event aims to foster scientific exchange, strengthen collaborative research, and promote meaningful academic interactions between the two institutions.

Installation of XRD and SAXS facilities at Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) have been successfully completed and inaugurated by the Honourable Director, Prof. J. N. Moorthy.

With these additions, IISER TVM now hosts a complete set of X-ray–based instrumentation, namely, SXRDs, PXRDs, SAXS, etc., strengthening our research capabilities and opening new avenues for advanced materials characterization.
