I'm a Brit who has lived in India since 2007 and co-founded IndoGenius with Meetu Soni in 2009. IndoGenius has been based in New Delhi since 2009. We assist universities, businesses, NGOs and government agencies from around the world interact with India. Guided by the Rig Veda’s wish that good ideas should come from all over the world, its mission is to help increase the greater sum of knowledge f

or the benefit of all mankind. IndoGenius’ work is directed by the firm belief that the next chapter of the human story will in part be defined by the economic and intellectual re-emergence of India and that its global partners can learn from, as well as contribute to, this re-emergence. This belief is reflected in the company’s composition, which combines the talent and passion of Indian nationals who have always called India home with expats from the UK, US, Europe and Africa who have chosen to make it so. In pursuit of these goals, IndoGenius has worked with dozens of US, UK, Australian and EU institutions and their Indian counterparts. This has included providing student immersion programs; conducting research and policy reports; developing free mobile education applications; and other strategic initiatives such as academic and research collaborations, preparing campus development plans, supporting graduate career opportunities, and developing alumni relations. Our Immersion Programs

• 1500+ participants from the US, UK, Europe, NZ and Australia have completed an IndoGenius program in India, ranging from one to four weeks in duration.

• IndoGenius were appointed by the US Department of State, together with the Ohio State University, to run the Passport to India initiative.

• 95% of our participants have rated their experience with IndoGenius as 9 or 10 out of 10.

Happy Birthday Lodi Garden! Have you noticed the Rosy Pastor Starlings are in town chattering and whirling away and the Palash parrot beak flowers are flaming?

90 years ago today on 9th April 1936 Lady Willingdon, the Vicereine of India, inaugurated a park named in her honour and changed after independence to Lodi Garden. Landscaped again in 1968 by Joseph Stein it is one of my favourite places to walk in the city.

Unlike wheat, rice actually grows under water. It’s harvest time in North India for the rice variety known as Primus Aprilis. I visited a paddy field near Delhi to see how it’s done.

If you would like to celebrate his life, or know someone who would, please do come to the Cathedral Church of the Redemption, 1 Church Road, North Avenue, New Delhi 110001.

From across the world and political spectrum people have shared their condolences and respect for Sir Mark and his extraordinary life and career. He received some of the highest honours of both India (Padma Bhushan) and the UK (Knighthood). I believe the only others are C V Raman, Dorabji Tata and Anish Kapoor.

Did you know 26 Jan was once India’s Independence Day? Today, it is Republic Day. How are you celebrating? Check my stories to see how we are.

Here is the important and fascinating story behind this incredibly important date in not just Indian but world history.

Between 1930 and 1946, Indians marked 26 January as the day of Purna Swaraj - the declaration of complete self-rule from independence from the British. When freedom finally came on 15 August 1947, the same historic date, 26 January, was chosen in 1950 for the adoption of the Constitution of India - transforming it into Republic Day.

I visited a beach in Mumbai, Dadar Chowpatty, to pay my respects to the architect of the Constitution of India Dr BR Ambedkar.

He is about to be commemorated at this spot with the third largest statue in the world.

Holding the Constitution of India, standing before the four-lion capital of Ashoka - a symbol of the Republic and of Dharma as moral authority - was a privileged opportunity to reflect on Sr Ambedkar life as a social reformer. Nearby lies Chaityabhoomi, his final resting place.

Ambedkar studied at Elphinstone College in what was then Bombay before going on to Columbia University in New York City. He then studied at the London School of Economics, and was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn. Many other freedom fighters followed similar intellectual journeys involving education in Britain including Gandhi, Aurobindo and Nehru.

Just months ago, I stood here again to catch a glimpse of the Bandra Worli Sealink bridge with projections celebrating the visit of Sir Keir Starmer.

A new chapter in UK–India relations is now being written, with British universities and Indian students once again at its heart.

Hon. PM Starmer and Hon. PM Narendra Modi met with nine UK University Vice Chancellors preparing to establish campuses in India.

By chance, I also ran into an old friend, Praveen, with whom we’ve hosted over a thousand British students learning about India - past, present, and future.

Wishing all Indians everywhere, a very Happy Republic Day.
