The Department of Civil Engineering, Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology (GKCIET) organized the 5th Regional Conclave of Institute of Engineers India (IEI) Students’ Chapter for the eastern region on "Tech for Rural Development and Agricultural Tech" on 30-31 March, 2026. The conclave was attended by more than 130 participants from across the country and eastern region in particular. There were 7 invited lectures on various topics related to the theme along with the 14 students’ paper/project presentations. This conclave aimed to provide a common platform to connect researchers, technocrats, policymakers, and practisers who are working in the multi-disciplinary domains of rural and agricultural technologies.

The SWAYAM–NPTEL Awareness Workshop was successfully organized on 10th February 2026 at Manthan Auditorium, Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda, in collaboration with NPTEL, IIT Madras. The workshop aimed to promote awareness of technology-enabled learning, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and the effective use of the SWAYAM–NPTEL platform among faculty members, administrators, and institutional representatives.
The programme began with registration and high tea, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. The inaugural session was graced by Prof. Siby John, Hon’ble Director, GKCIET, and Mr. S. S. Das, Guest Speaker from NPTEL, IIT Madras. Their presence added great value and motivation to the participants.
Dr. Sandip Chanda, SPOC, NPTEL Local Chapter, delivered the welcome address and emphasized the importance of digital learning, blended education, and the opportunities provided by NPTEL courses for skill enhancement, credit transfer, and improved employability. A brief video presentation about GKCIET introduced the institution’s achievements and outreach initiatives.
During the inaugural address, Prof. Siby John, Hon’ble Director of GKCIET, emphasized the transformative role of NPTEL in democratizing access to quality education and bridging the gap between premier institutions and regional colleges. He highlighted that the SWAYAM–NPTEL initiative enables faculty members to continuously upgrade their knowledge, adopt modern pedagogical practices, and enhance student outcomes through blended learning approaches. He encouraged all participating institutions to actively utilize the Local Chapter model, motivate students for certification courses, and integrate NPTEL credits into academic curricula. He further noted that such Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) serve as important platforms for capacity building, collaboration, and sharing of best practices, ultimately contributing to academic excellence and industry readiness. Hon’ble Director, GKCIET also announced that soon the institute will become an examination centre of NPTEL and will felicitate students, faculty, NPTEL aspirants of this region to appear for the examinations here at Malda avoiding the plight of travelling to Kolkata or Siliguri.
The expert session conducted by Mr. S. S. Das covered course enrollment, certification procedures, examination models, industry relevance, and Local Chapter performance metrics. Practical guidance on improving course completion rates and student engagement was shared. Participants actively interacted during the question–answer session and discussed strategies for implementing MOOCs effectively within their institutions.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from representatives of 155 faculty members from 35 engineering colleges, polytechnics, and degree institutions across the region. The event served as a platform for networking, collaboration, and exchange of best practices. Faculty members expressed keen interest in integrating NPTEL courses into their curricula and encouraging students to pursue certifications
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a networking lunch. Overall, the workshop successfully strengthened awareness about online education initiatives and reaffirmed GKCIET’s commitment to academic excellence and outreach. The event was marked by active engagement, knowledge sharing, and a collective resolve to leverage technology for inclusive and quality higher education.

The “Meet the Director” Programme was organized at Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology (GKCIET), Malda for the 2025–26 admitted (First Year) B. Tech and Diploma students of all engineering departments as part of the institute’s commitment to participative/inclusive governance, student engagement, and strengthening of mentoring and counselling mechanisms. The programme was conducted department-wise at Manthan Auditorium on 2 February 2025 (Mechanical Engineering), 6 February 2025 (Food Technology), 11 February 2025 (Computer Science and Engineering), 12 February 2025 (Civil Engineering), and 13 February 2025 (Electrical Engineering). Although scheduled for 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM, each session extended to approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to enable detailed interaction and student participation.
Prof. Siby John, Director, GKCIET met the students of the respective departments on the scheduled days and interacted with them in an open and student-friendly environment. The Director specifically reviewed the mentoring and counselling activities and assessed effectiveness of the structured format implemented from 2025-26. He also invited the students’ feedback on the effectiveness of the mentoring system, accessibility of counselling support, academic challenges, and issues related to student welfare facilities. Students were encouraged to speak freely about their concerns that had not been addressed satisfactorily. The interaction covered difficulties in academic adjustment, communication gaps in mentoring, awareness and access to student welfare support, and expectations from institutional leadership.
During the interaction, Prof. Siby John advised students to adhere to the modalities of the institute’s mentoring system and emphasized the importance of proper documentation of student issues. He instructed that every difficulty faced in academics, counselling, or accessing student welfare facilities should be formally recorded in the minutes on monthly meetings during faculty mentor meets so that such concerns can be communicated systematically to the In-Charge of the Mentoring and Counselling Cell and the Dean (Student Welfare), and to the Director. He explained that structured documentation and escalation through the mentoring hierarchy would enable timely institutional response, corrective measures, and effective resolution of student problems.
The extended duration of each departmental meeting provided students with a comfortable and democratic platform to express their views candidly. Students shared several concerns and experiences related to mentoring, counselling, academics, and student welfare that they felt had not been convincingly addressed. The Director responded to their queries, clarified institutional processes, and assured that genuine concerns would be examined through appropriate channels and action taken without delay. Students expressed that they felt privileged and motivated by the opportunity to interact directly with the Director and appreciated the institute’s openness to feedback and student welfare concerns.
Overall, the “Meet the Director” Programme strengthened communication between students and institutional leadership and reinforced confidence in the mentoring and counselling framework of GKCIET. The initiative enabled collection of authentic student feedback, highlighted areas requiring improvement in mentoring and welfare support, and demonstrated the institute’s commitment to participative governance and continuous quality enhancement in student support systems.

In an ongoing endeavour and commitment of Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology (GKCIET), Malda to enhance the students’ on-campus placement, a Finishing School Programme was organized at GKCIET Malda from 27 February to 1 March 2026 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
The objective of the progamme included enhancing students’ employability skills, professional behaviour, aptitude, communication ability, and career readiness. The three-day programme witnessed a series of interactive sessions delivered by external experts, alumni, and professional trainers aimed at preparing students for recruitment processes and workplace expectations. The first day focused on Interview and Professional Behaviour Mastery, where Mr. Sumit Sinha, Corporate Trainer, conducted sessions on group discussion techniques, personal interview strategies, and corporate etiquette. Students were introduced to the structure and dynamics of group discussions, effective participation strategies, and real interview scenarios through mock GD rounds and mock interview sessions. He also explained the difference between HR and technical interviews and demonstrated structured answering techniques such as the STAR method to help students present their experiences confidently. The day also included discussions on workplace culture, professional etiquette, and goal setting to help students plan their career pathways. At the beginning of the 2nd Day Mr.Subhankar Maity, and Ms.Adrita Sarkar, 2024 graduating batch from Food Technology department addressed the gathering on career orientation. The day also focused on Aptitude Enhancement and Personality Development and began with an Alumni Speak session, where alumni shared insights on the importance of professional development, career planning, and industry expectations. Experts from the Rice Training Institute, Malda conducted sessions on Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation, where students were trained in analytical reasoning, puzzle solving, and data interpretation strategies commonly used in recruitment aptitude tests, followed by a mock aptitude test to assess students’ problem-solving abilities in a timed environment. In the afternoon sessions, Ms. Sonali Paul, Counsellor and Personality Development Coach, delivered engaging sessions on Personality Development, Professional Ethics and Human Values, and Handling Success and Failure, highlighting the importance of self-awareness, confidence building, ethical behaviour, emotional intelligence, resilience, and stress management in professional life. The third day of the programme focused on Self Branding and Communication Skills. The day began with an alumni-led session on Self Branding, which covered résumé writing, LinkedIn profile development, SWOT analysis, and strategies for aligning personal strengths with career opportunities. Mr.Korok Sengupta, 2024 graduating batch of Electrical Engineering Department and Mr.Arghadeep Chowdhury 2024 graduating batch of Mechanical Engineering department of the institute also addressed the gathering on the topic. This was followed by interactive sessions conducted by Mr. Aniruddha Chowdhury, Professional Trainer in Communication Skills and Personality Development, who trained students in communication essentials, articulation, confidence building, effective self-introduction, group discussion participation, and professional networking behaviour. Students actively participated in exercises and discussions designed to strengthen their communication and interpersonal skills. The programme concluded with a reflection and assessment activity where students reviewed their learning and submitted updated résumés and LinkedIn profiles as part of the assignment. The programme received an overwhelmingly positive response from the students, who appreciated the practical orientation of the sessions, the opportunity to interact with industry experts, and the exposure to real-world recruitment scenarios. Many participants expressed that the mock interviews, aptitude practice, communication training, and personality development sessions significantly boosted their confidence and helped them better understand the expectations of employers.
Overall, the Finishing School Programme proved to be highly beneficial in bridging the gap between academic learning and professional requirements, thereby contributing meaningfully to the students’ career preparedness and employability.

Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology organized a Swachhata Campaign on 05th February 2026 under mission LiFE (Life for Environment). The event primarily focussed to encouraging students to maintain a clean and healthy campus environment. It helped to develop social responsibility, teamwork, and environmental consciousness among students, while contributing to a more hygienic and pleasant learning atmosphere.

Students were divided into five groups led by NCC volunteers and cleaned in different areas across the institute. The event was scheduled between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm on 05.02.2026. During the drive, student volunteers participated in cleaning gardens, roadsides, playground and surrounding areas of the institution. The activity also includes awareness campaigns on proper waste management, use of dustbins, and reduction of plastic usage.

Finally, the students took Swachhata pledge and Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan pledge. The event concluded with the National Anthem.

Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology observed the National Youth Day 2026 on 12th January 2026 with ful of passion and enthusiasm. The theme of this year’s celebration was ‘Swadeshi, Atmanirbhar Bharat’.



The function started with a floral tribute to Swami Vivekananda. Prof Siby John, Director GKCIET, in his address stressed youth empowerment, self-belief, discipline, and nation building. The programme was an inspiring initiative to motivate youth through the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and to promote the use of indigenous products, teamwork, physical fitness, discipline, social participation, and a sense of responsibility towards the nation.



The representatives of Akhil Bharatiya Vivekananda Yuva Mahamandal (ABVYM), English Bazar Malda, presented their activities in and around Malda. Possible collaboration of the GKCIET students and staff with the ABVYM was also discussed.



The main function was followed by a youth outreach programme titled “Run for Swadeshi (Swadeshi Sankalp Run)" where a Marathon for 2 km from the GKCIET main gate to nearby Sukhan Dighi village was taken up. Students, faculty, and staff, along with our Hon’ble Director, participated in the Marathon. At the village, the participants interacted with the villagers of Sukhan Dighi, Malda, and presented the relevance of the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. Also, the students and NCC cadets identified several areas in which they can participate in the development of the village.

Krishtitarang Main Event on 17/11/2025:

The second and final day of our beloved cultural fest, KRISHTITARANG, unfolded with unmatched energy, talent and celebration! From noon to night, the campus was alive with colours, cheers and unforgettable performances. The day began with an exciting Quiz Competition, where teams battled through rounds of rapid-fire questions, showcasing brilliance, teamwork and competitive spirit. This was followed by the much-awaited Prize Distribution Ceremony, honouring the winners of all competitions held throughout the fest. The joy, applause and proud smiles lit up the entire hall!
After the awards, the stage belonged entirely to our talented students—
Drama that made the audience laugh, think and feel
Musical performances that filled the air with rhythm
Songs that touched hearts
Dance performances that brought the stage alive with energy
Recitation pieces that mesmerized the crowd with emotion and expression.
The theme-based ramp walk added an extra spark to the evening, and expressive fashion showcasing stunning creativity, confidence and expressive fashion. Each step on the runway beautifully reflected the spirit and story behind the theme.
Every performance reflected passion, dedication and creativity at its peak.
And to close the night on the highest note, the fest concluded with a spectacular DJ Night!
Students gathered on the dance floor, celebrating the spirit of togetherness, rhythm and youthful joy—making it a finale to remember.
With this, KRISHTITARANG 2025 came to a grand and glittering close.
