📢 Awareness & Community Enrichment Programme under Seva Sankalp Abhiyan

The Department of Commerce, Malda College, in association with NSS Unit III, Malda College, successfully organised an Awareness and Community Enrichment Programme as a part of the “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan” on 1st October 2026 at Bichitra Market.

The programme, themed “Financially Aware, Digitally Safe,” focused on creating awareness among members of the community regarding banking services, cybercrime awareness, digital safety, and financial fraud prevention.

Our students actively participated in the programme and engaged with members of the community, sharing useful information on safe banking practices, common cyber threats, and measures to prevent financial fraud.

The initiative provided our students with a meaningful opportunity to translate their academic learning into community awareness, social responsibility, and service, while contributing to the objectives of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.

We sincerely appreciate the enthusiastic participation and valuable cooperation of our students, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and all those who contributed to the successful organisation of the programme.

🌸 A Memorable Chapter Comes to a Close 🌸

Today, the Department of Commerce, Malda College, had the privilege of bidding farewell to Prof. Goutam Kumar Kundu Sir on the occasion of his superannuation.

With an impressive 38 years of teaching experience, including 26 years of dedicated service to Malda College, Sir has been an integral part of the academic journey of this institution. Over these years, he has contributed not only as a teacher but also as a valued colleague, mentor, and a gentle presence in the department.

For me personally, today’s farewell was particularly special and emotional. I have had the privilege of working with Sir for the last seven years. Despite the considerable difference in our age and experience, he never once made me feel junior. His simplicity, humility, politeness, calm and composed nature, and ever-willing cooperation made our association truly meaningful.

Some people leave behind positions; some leave behind memories. Great teachers leave behind a legacy. Sir's contribution to the institution and the countless students whose lives he has touched will remain a part of that legacy.

Over the last few years, our department has witnessed the retirement of one teacher after another. With every farewell, we realise that while our department becomes younger in terms of age, it also loses a little of its accumulated experience, wisdom and institutional memory. Today, with Sir's retirement, we feel that loss once again.

A colleague may take your place, Sir, but the person you are can never be replaced. Your retirement leaves a void in the department that will certainly be felt.

As you begin this new chapter of life, we express our deepest gratitude for your 38 years of service to the teaching profession and 26 years of association with Malda College.

May the years ahead bring you good health, peace, happiness, quality time with your family, and the freedom to pursue all that brings you joy.

Thank you, Sir, for your warmth, your cooperation, your simplicity, and above all, for the wonderful memories you leave behind.

The department will miss your presence, but your contribution and memories will remain with us.

The Department of Commerce at Malda College was honored to host a special interactive session, "From Alumni to Aspiration," featuring our distinguished alumnus, Wasim Akram (Advocate, Supreme Court of India & Ph.D. Scholar in Law).

It was an incredible opportunity for our current students to learn from his journey, gain valuable insights, and map out their own paths toward excellence. A big thank you to Mr. Akram for giving back to his roots and motivating our students to learn, grow, and succeed!
