3rd International Conference on Recent Trends in Mechanical & Sustainable Engineering at Senate hall organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, Punjabi University Patiala on 13th March 2026.
Today, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Punjabi University, Patiala organized the inaugural ceremony of its third annual conference in the Senate Hall. The theme of the conference was “Recent Trends in Mechanical and Sustainable Engineering.”The keynote speakers at today’s inaugural session were Jasveer Singh, Senior Director at Tenneco India, and Sh. Sunder Singh, Engineering Head at Airbus USA. Mr. Jasveer Singh serves as Senior Director – Operations at Tenneco(India). He has more than 35 years of extensive experience in the automotive manufacturing industry. His expertise includes manufacturing operations, quality management, and advanced manufacturing processes such as aluminum casting, powder metallurgy, machining, and assembly. Currently, he is responsible for profit and loss management, business development, and strategic operations for Tenneco India. He is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, a Lean Black Belt from Motorola University, and an ICRA-approved Lead Auditor for ISO 9000. Under his leadership, his teams have received several prestigious honors, including the GM Global Supplier Quality Award for nine consecutive years, along with multiple awards from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Bajaj Auto. Sh. Sunder Singh is currently working with Airbus in the United States. He has more than two decades of international experience in aircraft engineering, product development, and structural analysis. He has worked with leading global organizations such as Airbus, Boeing, Tata Consultancy Services, and Spirit AeroSystems. His areas of expertise include engineering leadership, digital transformation, and advanced aerospace systems. The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Jaswinder Singh Brar, Dean Academic Affairs, Punjabi University, Patiala. In his welcome address, Professor Vinod Kumar, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, stated that mechanical engineering is the backbone of all types of manufacturing in the modern era. He emphasized that the use of resources in production must be understood from an environmental perspective, and discussions on sustainable engineering in academic environments are extremely important. The Conference Convener, Dr. Roshan Lal Virdi, elaborated on the theme of the conference. He said that modern mechanical engineers are no longer limited only to manufacturing, but are also playing leading roles in areas such as artificial intelligence, smart materials, and other technologies that significantly impact human life. The Organizing Secretary, Dr. Davinder Singh, informed that the conference received more than 50 research papers, which were presented across five different tracks. During the valedictory ceremony in the evening, the chief guests were Dr. Balraj Singh Saini, Dean Colleges, and Dr. Raman Maini, Director MMTTC, Punjabi University, Patiala and Dr. Manjit Singh Bhamrah Dean Engineering Faculty. More than 50 delegates from different cities across the country, along with professors from various departments and students of the Mechanical Engineering Department, attende this important event.
