A significant step forward for collaborative healthcare innovation in India.

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology is proud to announce the approval of PRIDE-INDIA, an ₹6.5 crore Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-funded consortium project, awarded to Proton BioSystems Lab - an integral interdisciplinary research laboratory at TIET focused on healthcare innovation, medical technologies and artificial intelligence.

The national consortium brings together TIET with AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi), Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, AIIMS Jodhpur, NIMHANS, Bangalore, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences [SGPGIMS] Lucknow and Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences [NIMS] Hyderabad, creating a powerful platform for multidisciplinary healthcare research and meaningful impact at scale.

In this conversation, Dr. Roop L. Mahajan, Chair Professor at CEEMS and Lewis A. Hester Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech, reflects on the research shaping the Centre’s work. From his pioneering work on converting coal into graphene to research spanning advanced materials, heat transfer and biosensors, he shares how ideas developed through years of research are finding new avenues at Thapar.

At the heart of the conversation is a larger question: how can emerging materials move from the laboratory to solutions that matter in the real world? Dr. Mahajan shares his perspective on the problems CEEMS is working to address, the research with the potential for global impact, and what Thapar hopes to demonstrate through its work in emerging materials.

On 12 September 2026, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology hosted its Internal Smart India Hackathon 2026 - bringing together students from across all four years to think boldly, collaborate fearlessly and build solutions for real-world challenges.

With 90 judges and 35 volunteers supporting the experience, the campus became a dynamic space for ideas, ingenuity and action.

From identifying problems to developing possibilities, the day reflected what innovation looks like when curiosity meets collaboration.

Here’s to every participant who showed up, built boldly and contributed to an unforgettable celebration of innovation.

Thapar in the news - for creating conversations that matter beyond the campus.

Luminescence 2026, an initiative by the Counselling Cell at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, brought students and experts together to engage with conversations around mental health, loneliness and emotional well-being.

The initiative received media coverage across The Tribune, ThePrint, ANI and Passionate in Marketing, taking the conversation from campus spaces to a wider audience.

As Dr. Sonam Dullat shared, “Mental health awareness becomes meaningful when it moves beyond formal conversations and becomes part of everyday campus culture.”

Ever wondered how an aircraft stays in the air, or why a fast-moving fluid can experience a change in pressure? ✈️

Bernoulli’s Principle helps us understand the relationship between the speed and pressure of a flowing fluid. Under the right conditions, as the speed of a fluid increases, its static pressure decreases.

From airflow around aircraft wings to the movement of fluids through pipes, this principle finds applications across science and engineering.

But here’s something to think about: Where else can differences in fluid speed and pressure shape what happens around us?

As Luminescence 2026 comes to an end, its final day unfolded through Calmfest - Surrealism: The Dream Escape - a space where creativity, imagination, and calm came together.

Through surrealist art, mindful games, and interactive experiences, students were invited to slow down, be present, and reconnect with their inner world in a playful and reflective way.

A gentle conclusion to four days of expression, conversation, connection, and mental well-being - bringing Luminescence 2026 to a thoughtful close.
