Government Mohindra College, Patiala, celebrated the Valedictory Ceremony of the 150th Anniversary of its Foundation
On Thursday, 9th April 2026, Government Mohindra College, Patiala, marked a historic milestone by celebrating 150 years of its illustrious establishment with a grand Sesquicentennial Valedictory Ceremony.
His Excellency, the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, lending unparalleled dignity to the celebrations.
In his address, His Excellency described the occasion as a moment of great pride and commended the college for its outstanding contribution to nation-building and holistic development. He emphasized the vital role of teachers in shaping responsible citizens and highlighted that education rooted in culture and values is essential for true progress. He also encouraged students to remain connected to their heritage and contribute meaningfully to society.
The function was further ennobled by the gracious presence of Dr Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, and Prof. Dr Rattan Singh,Vice Chancellor of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala.
The program commenced with a heartfelt welcome by Principal Dr Nishtha Tripathi, who eloquently reflected on the glorious 150-year journey of the college, underscoring its legacy of excellence and enduring contribution to education.
On this momentous occasion, the Commemorative Annual Magazine dedicated to the sesquicentennial journey was released. The college also paid tribute to its alumni and retired faculty, honouring their invaluable contributions, while current students excelling in diverse fields were felicitated for their achievements.
His Excellency inaugurated the Commemorative Herbal Park, a living repository of nearly 40 medicinal plant species, including Pathar-chatta, Tulsi, Bay Leaf, Camphor, and Rudraksha—an initiative designed to acquaint the younger generation with the healing wisdom of nature.
In addition, the Heritage Gallery was unveiled, showcasing the college’s rich legacy through rare photographs, artefacts, and vintage instruments such as a diascope, microscope, chemical balance, vibration magnetometer, and a steam engine—each symbolising the institution’s pioneering spirit and academic grandeur.
Eminent citizens of Patiala district, the police force, and the district administration were also present on the occasion.
The program concluded with a dignified Vote of Thanks delivered by Vice Principal Prof. Loveleen Parmar, who expressed deep gratitude to His Excellency, the distinguished Vice Chancellors, and all eminent guests for their presence and blessings.
