Prof. (Dr.) K.C. Sinha stressed the fact that the manner and pace in which environmental degradation is taking place, the climate is bound to change drastically. He urged the youth of India who constitute around 65 / of our population to contribute significantly towards 'sustainable development' and aid in ensuring that our country is braketed in the list of developed countries by 2047, which is the vision of our hon'ble Prime Minister. Prof. (Dr.) Uday Shankar was of the view that although grassroot democracy was strengthened by the 74th Constitutional Amendment Act, adopted in 1973, which granted constitutional status to the urban local bodies, a lot has to be done to make them efficient in tackling the menace of climate change and promote biodiversity conservation. The problem is that the decision making is being done at the central level by the government and the role of local municipal bodies has been limited to implementing those policies which they fail to achieve due to dearth of finances and other related issues.Sir contended that the planning must be done at the city level as these drive economic development and also contribute in emitting maximum green house gases and thus it will really be very effective in tackling most of the specific issues concerning the local ecosystems. Justice Samrendra Pratap Singh briefly discussed the meaning of climate change, its causes and remedies which can be beneficial in combating the same. In the end, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Singh stressed upon the need to blend the traditional and the modern approaches in formulating and implementing policies in our day to day lives for a balanced development.
