Delivering the Convocation Address on the occasion of the 4th Convocation of the University, Held at Adhiveshan Bhawan on Friday, Hon’ble Governor Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) congratulated the graduating students and described the convocation as not merely the culmination of academic life but the beginning of a new journey filled with responsibilities, opportunities, and challenges. He said that the students graduating from BASU would play a vital role in strengthening the livestock, dairy, fisheries, and rural economy sectors of Bihar and India.
The Governor emphasized that animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries are the backbone of rural livelihoods in Bihar and are essential for nutritional security, employment generation, and improving the income of small and marginal farmers. He noted that in a state where agriculture remains the primary occupation, the contribution of trained professionals in veterinary and animal sciences becomes even more significant.
Highlighting the growing importance of the fisheries sector, he stated that Bihar possesses immense potential for aquaculture development because of its abundant water resources, including rivers, ponds, reservoirs, and wetlands. He said that scientific fish farming, improved seed quality, modern feed management, and advanced harvesting and marketing systems can significantly increase fish production and farmers’ income while also generating large-scale employment opportunities for youth and women.
The Governor urged students to adopt three guiding principles in life “Knowledge with Compassion,” “Innovation with Purpose,” and “Service to Rural India.” He remarked that graduates are not merely professionals but caretakers of animal health and contributors to human well-being. Encouraging students to stay future-ready, he stressed the importance of embracing emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), precision dairy farming, data-driven livestock management, and sustainable agricultural practices. According to him, these technologies have the potential to transform livestock and allied sectors in the coming years.
He further stated that universities today must function not only as centres of theoretical learning but also as bridges between academia, industry, and society. Appreciating BASU’s commitment toward research, innovation, and extension services, he said that scientific knowledge developed within the university should effectively reach farmers and rural communities at the grassroots level. He encouraged the graduating students to dedicate themselves to the service of rural India and work towards improving livestock productivity, animal health, dairy practices, and rural livelihoods.
