The second day of the ongoing series of paper presentations under the Students' Seminar was held on 8th September 2026 at Gallery-2. Students of Semester 1 presented their PowerPoint presentations on a range of diverse sociological topics, including the Caste System in India, Varna and Caste, and Social Control, among others, showcasing their research and analytical perspectives on these themes within the discipline. The session was attended by students from Semesters 3, 5, and 7, who actively engaged with the presentations by raising questions and participating in the discussions that followed.

The Department of Sociology organized a departmental activity in the form of a series of PowerPoint presentations, developed in accordance with the syllabus prescribed under FYUGP 2024–25. The event was held on 7th September at Gallery-2 and formed part of the department's ongoing efforts to foster academic engagement and encourage active participation among students beyond the conventional classroom setting.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from departmental students across multiple semesters, including those from Semester 1, Semester 3, Semester 5, and Semester 7, thereby reflecting a spirit of collective learning and interdisciplinary exchange among students at different stages of their academic journey. Notably, students of Semester 5 presented on the topic of Major Sociological Thinkers, as prescribed under Major Course-09 of their syllabus, offering their peers valuable insight into foundational sociological perspectives.

Through this presentation series, participants engaged meaningfully with key concepts and perspectives associated with sociological thought, deepening their understanding of the subject while also honing their presentation and analytical skills.

The event stands as a testament to the department's continued commitment to enriching the academic experience of its students through interactive and student-centered learning initiatives.

Organized in collaboration with the Block Development Office, Pedong, Pedong Education Society, and Ahora Foundation, the event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, staff, and community representatives. A comprehensive yoga session led by Dr. Dipti Tamang introduced participants to asanas, pranayama, meditation, and relaxation techniques aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being.

The programme highlighted the importance of yoga in building a healthier, more balanced, and mindful society.

Government General Degree College at Pedong observed Paschim Banga Diwas on 20th June 2026 with due solemnity and enthusiasm. The programme was organised by the Indian Knowledge System Committee in collaboration with the Cultural Sub-committee of the College, reflecting the institution’s dedication to fostering awareness of Bengal’s historical and cultural legacy.
The event commenced with an Essay Writing Competition open to students of the 2nd and 4th Semesters. The competition encouraged participants to engage thoughtfully with themes related to the history and identity of West Bengal, providing a valuable academic exercise in keeping with the spirit of the occasion.
This was followed by a Cultural Programme that celebrated the rich and diverse heritage of Bengal through performances and presentations, offering students a vivid appreciation of the region’s traditions and artistic legacy.
A highlight of the programme was a PowerPoint presentation delivered by Asst. Prof. Roshni Pradhan on the topic “The Partition of Bengal and the Formation of Bengal: The Historical Perspectives.” The presentation offered students a well-structured and informative account of the historical forces that shaped Bengal, tracing the events that led to its partition and the circumstances that gave rise to the present-day state of West Bengal.
The programme witnessed wholehearted participation from students and faculty members alike, making it a memorable and enriching observance. The collaborative efforts of the Indian Knowledge System Committee and the Cultural Sub-committee in successfully conducting the event are duly acknowledged.

World Environment Day was observed on 5th June 2026 at Government General Degree College, Pedong, with great enthusiasm and active participation from teachers and students. The programme aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation and sustainable practices. As part of the celebration, teachers and students jointly planted saplings within the college campus to promote greenery and ecological balance. They also carried out a cleanliness drive in and around the college premises, collecting waste and cleaning the surrounding areas. The event highlighted the importance of protecting the environment and encouraged everyone to contribute towards building a cleaner, greener, and healthier future.
