Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, takes immense pride in celebrating the remarkable academic achievements of its students in the Guru Nanak Dev University Examinations. The students of B.Com Semester VI brought laurels to the institution by securing meritorious positions in the University.

Priya secured an impressive 7.93 CGPA and bagged the 28th position in the University, while Tania achieved a 7.91 CGPA and secured the 33rd position in the University.

Dr. Kamini Sehgal, Principal, congratulated the meritorious students on their commendable performance and appreciated the collective efforts of the faculty members and the Department of Commerce. Dr. Savinder Pal, Director Academics, also extended heartfelt congratulations to the students and the entire department for this academic achievement.

DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND RED RIBBON CLUB CELEBRATE WORLD OZONE DAY

Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Savinder Pal, Director Academics, and Dr. Kamini Sehgal, Principal of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, the Department of Science and Red Ribbon Club of the college celebrated World Ozone Day on September 16, 2026, under the theme “Global Action for a Cooler Planet.”
The initiative was aimed at sensitising students about the critical importance of the ozone layer and inspiring them to take collective responsibility towards environmental protection. The celebration featured three engaging segments—“Ozone Theatre – A Message for Our Planet,” “Ozone In Focus,” and “Walk for the Ozone.”
Dr. Vibhu Vaid highlighted the significance of World Ozone Day and emphasized the indispensable role of the ozone layer in protecting life on Earth. The programme continued with an impactful skit presented by students Nancy, Manvi and their team, who brought the theme to life through a thought-provoking debate between “Greenery Earth” and “Developed Earth.” The performance effectively depicted the contrast between natural ecosystems and rapid industrial development while drawing attention to environmental degradation and the challenges posed by unchecked industrialisation.
The educational segment “Ozone In Focus” was conducted by B.Sc. Medical students Kashish, Bhavni, Prachi, Vishakha and Shrishti through an interactive PowerPoint presentation attended by approximately 120 students. The students explained the formation and significance of the ozone layer, discussed the role of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in ozone depletion, and highlighted practical preventive measures that can help protect this vital atmospheric shield.
The celebration concluded with “Walk for the Ozone,” an awareness rally in which students carried handmade posters and spread the message of ozone protection across the campus. The rally encouraged students to recognise their individual role in promoting environmentally responsible practices.
Dr. Savinder Pal, Director Academics and Dr. Kamini Sehgal, Principal appreciated the efforts of the Department of Science and Red Ribbon Club in organising the awareness programme. Dr. Kamini Sehgal remarked, “Protecting the ozone layer is not merely a task for scientists, but a personal duty for every student to safeguard our planet’s future.” Dr. Savinder Pal further emphasized the importance of environmental consciousness among the younger generation and stated, “Empowering our youth with environmental awareness today is the greatest investment we can make for a sustainable tomorrow.” She also highlighted the global necessity of adopting sustainable lifestyles.
The programme successfully blended scientific awareness, creativity and active student participation, reinforcing the message that collective action is essential for protecting the environment and building a sustainable future.

Library Orientation Programme

Under the able guidance of the Director Academics, Dr. Savinder Pal and the college Principal, Dr. kamini Sehgal, Shri Bhag Ram Handa Library organised a one-month Library Orientation Programme from 13 August to 14 September for the newly admitted UG and PG students.

The programme was designed to familiarise students with the library’s facilities, services, and diverse academic resources. As part of the orientation, students were taken on an insightful tour of the library and introduced to the library software, magazines, journals, newspapers, and other valuable learning resources available to them. More than 300 students participated in the programme and gained an understanding of how to access and utilise the library resources effectively.

The programme aimed to encourage students to make the library an integral part of their academic journey by developing awareness of its resources and promoting effective, independent, and purposeful learning.

English Literary Society of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, Organises Screening of Classic Film ‘The Guide’ for Literature Students

Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Savinder Pal, Director Academics, and Dr. Kamini Sehgal, Principal of the college, the English Literary Society of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, organised a special two-day film screening of the cinematic classic ‘The Guide’ (1965, directed by Vijay Anand) on September 14th and 15th, 2026.

The initiative was specifically designed to foster a deeper, multi-dimensional understanding of R.K. Narayan’s masterpiece novel *The Guide*, which is prescribed in the Semester V English syllabus. By translating literary text into a visual narrative, the screening aimed to assist undergraduate students in critically analysing the novel's thematic richness, character development, philosophical shifts, and socio-cultural nuances.

The screening sessions saw enthusiastic participation from 90 fifth-semester students, followed by engaging interactive discussions comparing the cinematic adaptation with the original text. The event was smoothly coordinated by faculty members Ms. Samreen, Ms. Isha Chhabra, and Mr. Harpreet Singh.

Director of Academics Dr. Savinder Pal and Principal Dr. Kamini Sehgal praised the Department of English for incorporating audio-visual pedagogies into mainstream literature studies, noting that cinema acts as an effective bridge between classroom theory and contextual literary appreciation.

NSS Unit of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara is Celebrates International Peace Day

Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Savinder Pal, Director Academics, and Dr. Kamini Sehgal, Principal of the College, the NSS Unit of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara celebrated the International Day of Peace on 15 September 2026 with great enthusiasm to spread the message of peace, harmony, non-violence, and mutual understanding among the youth.

The NSS Unit organised a special lecture on the occasion. Dr. Manjinder Kaur, NSS Programme Officer, delivered an informative lecture on the significance of the International Day of Peace. She highlighted that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but also the presence of justice, respect, tolerance, understanding, and compassion.

On the occasion, Ms. Nidhi Jassal, NSS Programme Officer, administered the Peace Pledge, which was solemnly taken by Dr. Savinder Pal, Director Academics, Dr. Manjinder Kaur, NSS Programme Officer, and the NSS volunteers. Through the pledge, the volunteers resolved to uphold peace, respect diversity, reject violence, and contribute positively towards building a peaceful and harmonious society.

Dr. Savinder Pal, Director Academics, addressed the NSS volunteers and elaborated on the importance of peace in the present global scenario. She motivated the volunteers to understand their responsibilities as young citizens and to carry the message of peace, unity, tolerance, and brotherhood into society. She appreciated the sincere efforts of the NSS Programme Officers, Ms. Nidhi Jassal and Dr. Manjinder Kaur, along with the active participation of the NSS volunteers in making the celebration meaningful and impactful.

Around 50 NSS volunteers participated in the programme and actively engaged in the activities organised to commemorate the International Day of Peace.
