Hyperloop India

Hyperloop India A crowd-sourced, student-driven, cross-campus Hyperloop think tank aiming to bring the Hyperloop to

Our goal is to democratize the Hyperloop by embracing open source and collaborative design and development, starting off with all BITS campuses. We’re based across multiple campuses, and our aim is get people (Alumni, Undergraduates, Post-Graduates) involved in the high-profile, futuristic multi-disciplinary challenge that is the Hyperloop and build a prototype Hyperloop pod design and scalability

model for the next iteration of the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Design Competition. The team was one of the 120 teams which presented their designs at the SpaceX Design Weekend, held at Texas in January, 2016. The Design Weekend served as a platform for the team to network with other, larger teams which were manufacturing Pods and was an opportunity to work with them to figure out and solve scalability challenges of the competition. Originating in Pilani, after a cross-campus orientation seminar delivered via telepresence and a huge response in all campuses later, the team has then expanded to a 60+ member team which uses Slack.com as a collaborative platform.

Hello everyone!
Hyperloop India is now recruiting first and higher-degree students from all BITS campuses.
Being the first Indian team to participate in the finals of the inaugural SpaceX Hyperloop Challenge (2016), we aim to achieve a similar feat by showcasing our new pod at the European Hyperloop Week 2024 (a global competition for student Hyperloop teams) and demonstrating the working of our design. As we would like innovative people in our team, who can push the boundaries of the Hyperloop concept, we will be holding inductions for the following subsystems.

1) Propulsion
2) Braking and Levitation
3) Electrical and Electronics
4) Software and Communication
5) Business Development.
Please check the Google form for further details on each subsystem and for applying.

Hey everyone!

We’re happy to announce that Hyperloop India has qualified for the final round of the European Hyperloop Week 2023 - Edinburgh, for the demonstration and the research categories. For the demonstration category, we have designed and will fabricate a pod capable of reaching speeds up to 150 kmph in an open environment. This has been made possible by our novel design of the propulsion subsystem that consists of highly optimized Linear Induction Motors, coupled with our non-contact levitation and braking and a minimal drag aero shell. For the research category of the competition, we will present methodologies that we have developed to design a highly efficient Double Sided Linear Induction Motor, which has become a key factor of our overall pod design.

We will continue pushing the boundaries of Hyperloop development through our innovative design solutions to problems that this fifth mode of transport faces.

See you soon, Edinburgh!

Hello everyone!

We recently had the opportunity to deliver a talk at the National Academy of Indian Railways (NAIR), Vadodara. We presented our contributions to the Hyperloop domain in India, technology in our current pod design for this year’s European Hyperloop Week and our future endeavors.

We thank the Indian Railways for inviting us and giving us the platform for interacting with other stakeholders in the Hyperloop domain and we look forward to more such conferences in the future.

We're delighted to announce that our hyperloop pod design has been selected to represent India at the final stage of the European Hyperloop Week's 2022 edition!
The team has put an enormous amount of effort into coming up with novel ideas for customized hyperloop tracks, methods of propulsion, and a prototype capable of being scaled up into an operable real-life pod.
Over the course of the next 6 months, we will be attempting to fine-tune our model, fixing all the chinks in the armor, and finally bring to a close what will hopefully be BITS' resurrection as a pioneer of innovation and transport technology after a long absence of 2 years at the global stage.
We would like to thank everyone on the team and outside, that has guided us and helped us realize the magnitude of results that our collective efforts can produce.
See you soon, Delft!

Please like and follow this page for further updates on our progress.

Shantanu Gaikwad and Nivedan Vishwanath of Hyperloop India had the chance to have a chat with Tanay Manjrekar on Hyperloop systems. Tanay Manjrekar is a power electronics specialist at Virgin Hyperloop at their DevLoop test site in Nevada. Tanay, who hails from Pune, Maharashtra, is a graduate of the University of Southern California. He joined Virgin Hyperloop in 2016 as an electrical engineering intern and worked his way up to the position he is in right now. He has been instrumental in developing Virgin’s Experimental-Pod-2 (XP-2) which made its maiden run in November 2020.
Tune in to listen to Tanay answer Shantanu and Nivedan’s exciting questions on the nitty-gritties of hyperloop systems. His success story, experiences at Virgin, and advice to the youth aspiring to contribute to exciting projects such as the Hyperloop have been captured masterfully in this 45-minute podcast.
This podcast was made possible by Pratik Kakade and Nitish Badu of BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus, whose podcast “At a crossroads” allowed us to interact with Tanay. We at Hyperloop India thank them for their excellent initiative of providing a platform for such open-ended, intellectual, and articulate discussions.

The Hyperloop is a high-speed ground-based transportation system utilizing sealed tubes, with the aim of ultimately transporting passengers between metropolitan cities in efficiently designed autonomous capsules. In recent years, the design and development of sub-scale prototypes for these Hyperloop pods has set the foundation for realizing more practical and scalable pod architectures.

At Hyperloop India, we strive to make this ambition our very own and also branch out into various academic fields, something that our electronics team has tackled head-on. Over the course of the last year, they have published a research paper that focuses on:
1. Optimized Electronics Architecture
2. Independent Onboard Pose Estimation Algorithm
3. Robust Battery Management and Electrical System

This paper proposes a practical, power and space-optimized on-board electronics architecture, coupled with an end-to-end computationally efficient pose estimation algorithm. Considering the high energy density and discharge rate of onboard batteries, this work additionally presents a robust system for fault detection, protection and management of batteries, along with the design of the surrounding electrical system. Performance evaluation and verification of proposed algorithms and circuits have been carried out by software simulations using both Python and Simulink.

The authors of this paper are Nihal Singh, Jay Karhade, Ishika Bhattacharya, Prathamesh Saraf, Plava Kattamuri and Professor Alivelu Manga Parimi. Attached below is the hyperlink for the paper:

25/04/2020

The COVID-19 lockdown has brought our cities to a standstill, with necessary restrictions on people’s movements and the stoppage of all transport services. As the world comes together to go beyond their call of duty in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic, few of our team members have decided to rise up to the occasion and develop a solution to improve containment and exposure alerting efforts.

Our goal is to identify critical transmission zones, alert users, track symptoms and organise patient flow in Hospitals. We believe it is the need of the hour to ensure a well-managed information pipeline between all of the stakeholders involved in the current crisis and it is our aim to make this happen. Our efforts have just started catching the world’s attention, but we need your help to bring this to life!

We are looking for volunteers to join us from the following fields:
Android Developers (Front/ Backend), iOS Developers (Front/ Backend), Full-stack Web developers, Cloud architecture management, Human Resources, Legal (Compliance), Marketing & Outreach, Medical Advisors & Product Managers.

Share this in your network and we would love to have your support. If you wish to volunteer or collaborate, email us at [email protected] or reach out on WhatsApp (+91-8208213948).
