The School of Kalayoga, Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth, hosted a one-day Monsoon Music Workshop on 18 July 2026 at Chinmayam, Baner, bringing together music enthusiasts for an enriching day of learning, practice and musical exploration.
The workshop offered three specialised streams:
Barkha Ritu Aayi - Dr. Swapnil Chaphekar introduced participants to seven monsoon-themed musical forms - Kajari, Khayal, Thumri, Jhoola, Chaturang, Barahmasa and Bhajan. His engaging teaching style, humour and interesting insights into the different forms made the learning experience both informative and enjoyable.
Tabla Dexterity - Dr. Atul Kamble guided participants through posture, hand techniques, Tabla bols, taal and layakari, speed and clarity, daily riyaz methods and basic accompaniment techniques. Demonstrations and hands-on practice helped participants strengthen both their technical skills and musical understanding.
Mastering Tunefulness in Flute - Shri Jayateerth Kulkarni focused on building a strong technical foundation in Hindustani classical flute, covering blowing techniques, sustained-note practice, breath control, tonal stability and pitch accuracy. Participants also learned a composition in Raag Brindavani Sarang, set to Rupak Taal, along with guidance on its presentation and improvisational possibilities.
Conducted in a blended mode, the workshop brought together 17 registered participants, including participants from abroad, who actively engaged in practical exercises and interactive discussions.
An enriching day of learning, practice and musical discovery, reflecting Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth’s commitment to nurturing Indian classical music through experiential learning and the Guru–Shishya tradition.
