I know you would hate us for saying this but let us face some facts. IIMs are preferring students who have a good academic track record over people who did marginally better than the others in 140 minutes. We know you can't go back and change your academic record - it is bad for you. We know coaching institutes can't do anything to change that - it is bad for them. But, and a very important but, it is good for the IIMs because they are selecting candidates who have performed throughout their academic careers. A question that could be asked then is why do they even have an exam? Well, the exam is just one of the many criteria which they consider. They have it as a 'rejection' tool rather than a 'selection' tool. So if you are planning to take CAT again in 2013, take a hard look at your track record before doing that.

Update on XAT 2013

The duration of the test will be increased to 2 hours 20 minutes as compared to 2 hours in the previous years. Another key change is the addition of a section on General Knowledge/Awareness which will test students in the areas of business, economics and politics related to business environment. The duration for this GK test will be 40 minutes. All in all, the total test duration of XAT 2013 will be 3 hours instead of 2.5 hours.

XAT 2013 will be conducted on Sunday 6th January 2013. XLRI conducts test on behalf of the XAMI. For more than 60 years XLRI is conducting test at all India level to select the most appropriate for management education. The test score is being used by more than 100 institutes for the admission.
