πWhat happens when celebrity, media, and political discourse intersect?
Join us for an interactive session on 'Neoliberal Stardom, Vernacular Celebrity, and the Cultural Politics of Visibility in Contemporary India'
The session will feature Rutuja Deshmukh and Ramna Walia, co-editors for the upcoming book, 'Mediated Cultures, Political discourses, and the Celebrity: Perspectives from India' (Bloomsbury 2026)
It maps the figure of the film celebrity in the last two decades amidst industrial, technological and political changes in the Indian mediascape, interrogates how contemporary Indian stardom is reshaped through the forces of platform capitalism, regional cultural assertion, algorithmic visibility, and neoliberal self-branding.
