IMDR - Pune

IMDR - Pune First B-school, since 1974. The oldest B-school in Pune,
IMDR was established in 1974 as a constituent unit of the Deccan Education Society.

It took over the MBA programme of the MBA Centre of the University of Pune and the DBM programme, run in the BMCC (a sister institution) since 1968. Affiliated to the University of Pune, the IMDR was also a recognised centre for research leading to Ph D. In 1977, the IMDR became an autonomous institution by voluntarily delinking from the University of Pune. Since then it has carried on its activit

ies, independent of the University or other statutory bodies. The rationale of this step was stated in these words: "...to make our teaching programmes, methods of teaching and examination more comprehensive, more flexible and more result-oriented....".

As India celebrates 80 years of , we honour a nation shaped by countless journeys, aspirations and stories. A nation that continues to grow, evolve and move forward—carrying its legacy with pride while imagining what comes next.

And at , this Independence Day carried another beautiful meaning.

We welcomed home the Batch of 1999–2001 for their Silver Jubilee Reunion—25 years after they walked these corridors as students.

The conversations were different. The journeys richer. But the sense of belonging remained wonderfully familiar.

80 years of India.
25 years of memories.
One day that celebrated , journeys and the ties that endure.

Here’s to looking back with gratitude and moving forward with possibility.

At , National Librarians’ Day 2026 was celebrated with an engaging Book Review Competition and Book Launch—bringing together the joy of reading, critical thinking, creativity, and meaningful .

The Book Review Competition saw enthusiastic student participants, with reviews presented through creative formats and judged by Mr. Jacob Verghese,HR & ER Consultant, Author & Life Coach.

Today at , Stories & Samvad became more than a conversation—it was an inspiring exchange between experience and ambition, tradition and transformation, and reinvention.

What changes when faculty step out of the classroom and into the shopfloor?

The questions change.
The context changes.

And often, so does the way we think about what students need to learn.

On 7 August 2026, faculty participated in the Faculty Industry Immersion Program at Forbes Marshall, Chakan, organized by CII Western Region, an experience designed to bring closer to the realities, challenges, and possibilities shaping industry today.

From conversations around innovation and R&D to discussions on future skills, employability, curriculum relevance, and academia–industry collaboration, the program offered more than exposure; it created space for .

The factory and training centre visit added another layer to the , making processes, products, and manufacturing systems visible beyond textbooks and case discussions.

The conversations on Industry 4.0, sustainability, digital transformation, and the future of manufacturing were especially relevant, reminding us that management education must continuously .

Every successful venture begins with someone who looks at an ordinary problem differently.

As part of the IMDR PGDM learning experience, students had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Harshal Dambe, Director, Shree Sai Samarth Coatings, during an insightful session on "Turning Everyday Problems into Profitable Ventures."

Sharing his entrepreneurial journey from a small manufacturing setup to becoming a trusted supplier for leading automobile companies, Mr. Dambe highlighted how innovation, calculated risk-taking, resilience, and continuous improvement can transform everyday challenges into sustainable business opportunities. His practical insights into manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and leadership encouraged students to look beyond conventional career paths and develop a solution-oriented mindset.

At it's core, management education is about learning to identify opportunities where others see obstacles, because that's how entrepreneurs and future leaders are built.

Success in a family business is not inherited, it is earned.

's PGDM students had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Chakor Gandhi, Entrepreneur and Business Coach, during an insightful session on "Success in Family Business."

Drawing on his entrepreneurial journey, he shared practical perspectives on the qualities that drive long-term business success, highlighting the importance of discipline, leadership, market awareness, innovation, customer focus, and a growth-oriented mindset. The session encouraged students to view leadership as a responsibility built through capability, commitment, and continuous learning.

Such interactions with accomplished industry leaders complement classroom learning and equip students with practical insights for navigating real-world business challenges.
