First B-school, since 1974. The oldest B-school in Pune,
IMDR was established in 1974 as a constituent unit of the Deccan Education Society.

It took over the MBA programme of the MBA Centre of the University of Pune and the DBM programme, run in the BMCC (a sister institution) since 1968. Affiliated to the University of Pune, the IMDR was also a recognised centre for research leading to Ph D. In 1977, the IMDR became an autonomous institution by voluntarily delinking from the University of Pune. Since then it has carried on its activities, independent of the University or other statutory bodies. The rationale of this step was stated in these words: "...to make our teaching programmes, methods of teaching and examination more comprehensive, more flexible and more result-oriented....".

A moment of pride for IMDR.

IMDR warmly congratulates Shri Satish Kashinath Marathe, former Director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India, on his appointment as a part-time member of the Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) for a three-year term, handling matters relating to Public Sector Banks and Financial Institutions.

FSIB plays a significant role in recommending leadership appointments and strengthening governance in India’s public sector financial institutions.

IMDR had the privilege of hosting Shri Marathe as Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the symposium on Depositor Voice and Bank Governance in India” on 21 February 2025. His participation brought valuable insights and experience to a discussion on an important question in banking governance: the representation of depositors.

The symposium emerged from a funded research study under the Indira Anant Athavale Memorial Research Fund, led by Prof. Darshan Bagade, Principal Investigator, examining the case for depositor representation in bank governance.

We remain privileged to have benefited from Shri Marathe’s perspectives. Such interactions strengthen IMDR’s commitment to connecting academic research with practitioners and public policy, creating space for informed dialogue on issues that matter to institutions and society.

We extend our best wishes to Shri Marathe for his new responsibility.

As workplaces evolve, career readiness demands more than technical knowledge. It calls for adaptability, business awareness, digital confidence and the ability to translate knowledge into meaningful action.

At IMDR Pune, we welcomed Ms. Monali Gangavane, HR Leader – India Technical Center, Pune, KOHLER, for an insightful industry interaction on “Strategic HR in a Changing Business Environment: Building Future-Ready Talent.”

The session explored the changing expectations of the workplace, highlighting how responsible AI adoption, cross-functional collaboration, professional accountability and continuous learning are becoming essential to career success.

Moving from insight to action, the Future-Ready Career Canvas encouraged students to assess their strengths, identify skill gaps and translate career aspirations into measurable development goals.

At IMDR – The Thinking Institute, such industry interactions connect classroom learning with evolving business realities, encouraging students to think beyond qualifications and prepare for meaningful professional contributions.
