Journalists and Caricaturists

A pen is mightier than a sword." Words may build a nation or bring it to its knees. Today, the world press is being suppressed, and the public is being denied access to the truth. We are at a juncture where the world press is being censored and the truth is being obscured from the eyes of the public. It is our job as members of the International Press to inform the world of the activities being conducted over the next two days! We feel the pen is our weapon, and we can wield it as needed! This year, the delegates will be expected to provide great committee reports and caricatures. We expect a lot from journalists and caricaturists. Last but not least, while the worldwide press may be unfamiliar to you, most people you encounter will be as well! Press committees are less prevalent but no less fun. You'll acquire new talents and have fun while doing it.

Agenda: Classified

Foreign intelligence and counterintelligence in China is the province of the MSS. The MSS was created in 1983 with the merging of the CID and the counterintelligence elements of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

The stated mission of the MSS is to ensure“ the security of the country through effective measures against enemy agents, spies, and counter-revolutionary activities, designed to sabotage, destabilize or overthrow China's socialist system.”
Article 4 of the Criminal Procedure Law of the People's Republic of China gives the MSS the same authority to arrest or detain people as regular police for crimes involving state security with identical supervision by the procuratorates and the courts.

The National Intelligence Law of 2017 grants the MSS broad powers to conduct many types of espionage both domestically and abroad, it also gives the MSS the power to administratively detain those who impede or divulge information on intelligence work for up to 15 days.
Chinese intelligence operations are conducted by officers under diplomatic cover as well as under nonofficial cover as businessmen and scholars.

Agenda: Discussing the Personal Data Protection Bill in light of the Pegasus revelations
The Lok Sabha will deal with the revelation that Pegasus, a hacking software sold by Israeli surveillance firm NSO, was used to spy on human-rights activists, journalists, lawyers, and others around the world—including in India. This is especially important given that in the 2017 Supreme Court case of Justice K.S.

Puttaswamy vs Union of India, a nine-judge bench found the right to privacy to be an integral part of the right to life and personal liberty under Article 21, as well as one of the freedoms guaranteed by Part III of the Indian Constitution. Although the Indian government introduced the Personal Data Protection Bill on December 11, 2019, it has yet to become a law , following the establishment of a committee of experts in 2017 under the chairmanship of Justice B.N.

Srikrishna, who was tasked with identifying key data protection issues and ways to address them. Therefore, it is extremely important that the parliamentarians sit together to discuss this issue which is of great threat to national privacy.

UNCOPUOS fosters international collaboration and addresses concerns arising from space exploration about security and development.

Agenda A.
Reviewing legal framework on outer space exploration keeping in mind militarisation
Amidst the rising concern of superpower States treating space as another battlefield to be exploited through research and development, stemming from the Cold War era, there has been an emergence of an arms race and militarized space warfare and espionage through dedicated government programs. Questionable experimentation and vague territories have enabled the capacity-building of an arsenal of weaponry. The agenda thus brings about a need for a review of an existing legal framework to promote full disclosure and disarmament.

Agenda B.
Analyzing global contribution to unregulated space debris by privatization and standardizing measures for the control
SDGs push States to be aware when introducing private players. Lax compliance with debris mitigation guidelines has caused an increase in pollution and the Kessler Syndrome to take effect, thus the agenda brings about a need for analyzing the source of such unregulated increase, as well as holding parties liable for it to uphold Space Situational Awareness.

The United Nations Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body under the OHCHR, responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe and addressing situations of human rights violations and making recommendations on them.
The agenda needs to discuss the Protection of victims of acts of aggression in conflict and the post-conflict situations with special emphasis on the ongoing disturbance in Ethiopia.
Globally, the absolute number of war deaths has been declining since 1946. And yet, conflict and violence are currently on the rise, with many disputes today waged between non-state actors such as political militias, criminal, and international terrorist groups.Globally, the number of war deaths has been declining since 1946. Yet, conflict and violence are currently on the rise, with many disputes today waged between non-state actors such as political militias, criminal, and international terrorist groups. Unresolved regional tensions, a breakdown in the rule of law, absent or co-opted state institutions, illicit economic gain, and the scarcity of resources exacerbated by climate change have become dominant drivers of conflict.
