The Diploma Film Assessments at the TV Editing Department of Film and Television Institute of India were elevated by the presence of acclaimed film editor and FTII alumnus Shan Mohammed as the external guest speaker.

Known for his work on celebrated films like Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, Wake Up Sid and many more, Shan Mohammed interacted with students during the assessment process, offering valuable industry insights, perspectives on cinematic storytelling, and thoughts on the evolving craft of editing.

His presence added a meaningful industry dimension to the assessments, giving students an opportunity to engage with a professional editor whose work has helped shape some of contemporary Hindi cinema’s memorable narratives.

From Afternoon Clouds to Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know, CatDog, and now Shadows of the Moonless Nights — FTII student films have continued to leave their mark at the Festival de Cannes and La Cinef.

Behind every selection and accolade are the countless hours of collaboration, craft, and contribution by FTII students across direction, cinematography, editing, sound, production design, and storytelling.

Proud moment for the FTII community as Shape of Momo, directed by Tribeny Rai, releases theatrically across India and Nepal on 29 May 2026.

The film has already received major international recognition, winning:
* Best Jury Award and Audience Choice Award for Best Narrative Film at the Indie Meme Film Festival, Austin, Texas
* Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle Film Festival
* Grand Jury Prize at the 24th Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles

From the Film Bazaar 2024 Work in Progress Lab to becoming a celebrated Busan award-winning feature backed by Spirit Media, Shape of Momo has had a remarkable journey in global independent cinema. The film is also supported by acclaimed filmmakers Payal Kapadia, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti as executive producers.

Cannes week feels extra special this year.

As the world celebrates cinema at Cannes, we look back at CatDog (2019), directed by FTII filmmaker Ashmita Guha Neogi, which made a global mark at La Cinef (formerly Cinefondation), Cannes Film Festival 2020 — a reminder that stories nurtured at FTII can travel far beyond classrooms and borders.

And the FTII presence at Cannes continues to shine. This year, FTII alumna Payal Kapadia joins the 65th Cannes Critics’ Week as the Jury President, while Shadows of a Moonless Night by FTII student filmmaker Mehar Malhotra has been selected for La Cinef at this year’s festival — making us immensely proud of the voices shaping cinema on the global stage.

From CatDog to today, FTII students and alumni continue leaving an imprint on world cinema — one story at a time.

FTII is proud to share that the 35mm prints of Amma Ariyan (1986), directed by FTII alumnus John Abraham and preserved in the archival collection of the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), have contributed to the film’s remarkable 4K restoration.

The restoration has been carried out by the Film Heritage Foundation using archival 35mm prints preserved by NFAI for over 38 years — reaffirming the crucial role of film archives in safeguarding cinematic heritage and enabling timeless works to reach new generations. Amma Ariyan is set to premiere in its restored form at the 79th edition of , marking a proud moment for Indian cinema.

FTII is delighted to celebrate the enduring legacy of its alumnus John Abraham, whose distinct cinematic voice continues to inspire generations of filmmakers. His films Priya and Hides & Strings can be viewed on FTII’s official YouTube channel, preserving and sharing the creative journeys of our alumni with wider audiences.

This workshop offers an introduction to the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking and non-fiction storytelling. FTII proudly celebrates Baazingg Khwatai, the debut feature film of our Screen Acting Department Professor & HOD Siddharth Shasta, released across Assam and other North-Eastern states on 8th May 2026. 🏆🥳

A powerful story of belief, fear and folklore, Baazingg Khwatai has been shot entirely across the beautiful landscapes of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and stands as a compelling representation of North-East India’s culture, atmosphere and cinematic potential.

The film also reflects the collaborative spirit of FTII, bringing together faculty members and alumni from different wings of the institute who contributed passionately to the project.
