Unemployment rate in the India is highest in last 45 years. It hampered mostly to the young youth of age 20 to 24. According to Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy’s survey, around 48% of employers in India reported difficulties in job vacancies due to skill gap. One of the strong contributors in the Indian economy, IT sector reported lack of around 1,40,000 techies in single year, despite huge efforts by recruiters and employers including training and skilling programs.

This is where new initiatives of skilling comes in picture for bridging this gap.

This sector hold near about 8 to 9% in the overall GDP of country. With rising construction and infrastructural development, the industry is expecting more skilled manpower with excels in their sector, who can understand safety and environmental regulation to work more effectively. This creates need of multi-skilling and improving working environment at construction projects.

The report from 'Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship' suggests that 4.69% of India's overall workforce is formally skilled. Skilling youth on large scale is still a challenge. Also, overall 70% population belongs to rural area; of them, around 49% are women.
Further, a data from Census claims that around 104 million fresh entrants and 298 million existing employees will require for skill training by 2022. Such stats proves that the skill training, enhancing soft skills and communication skills have become imperative for better job and earning opportunities.

The equation of better earning and better jobs is quite simple. The skills are key to be paid more. The World Bank's South Asia Economic Focus Spring 2018 report suggested that India’s working population is increasing by 1.3 million per month. Thus, we need to create millions of job per year.
In order to bridge this job demand and creating skilled man force, the government will allocate Rs. 3,000 crore for skill development and industrial training. Additionally, the ministry will underline the unexplored potential of apprenticeship programs.

Government recently started scheme such as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) generated 268 crore Persondays. Meanwhile, in recent union budget, Finance Minister allocated Rs. 61,500 crore for the scheme in the year, 2020-21. Apart from this, the schemes including Deen Dayal Antodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) generated 1.63 lakh and 1.36 lakh jobs respectively.
