Bharati Vidyapeeth University Institute of Environment Education & Research BVIEER a unique educational institute with wide mandates of teaching, research and extension in the field of environment science and geoinformatics.

The distinctive characteristics of the BVIEER are its wide mandate of teaching, research and extension which have been major thrusts of the Institute. The major achievements include its projects and programs that have led to influencing environment policy and implementation of environment education at school and college level along with strategies for Protected Area Management. The Institute actively collaborates with several international Universities and organizations and has instituted semester exchange programs and international internship programs. Its innovative teaching program supplements classroom teaching with field work, guest lectures, group discussions, projects and internships. This great range of integrated academics, research and outreach programs is a unique feature which greatly strengthens the academic initiatives. The faculty are well known National experts in their individual fields and this greatly enhances the teaching program.

Love mapping? Build it open.

Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) Institute of Environment Education and Research, Pune, in collaboration with OpenStreetMap India, invites you to help put Pune’s old trees on the map.

From familiar banyans to neighbourhood peepals, these trees are part of our city’s living history. Join us to document their locations on OpenStreetMap and help build a public record that can support efforts to recognise and protect them.

Every morning, a city wakes up. And then… it starts moving.

But where does everyone go? How far do they travel? Which directions dominate? And can we actually see a city’s daily movement?

What started as rows of coordinates and commute data became an interactive 3D geospatial story, revealing patterns in direction, distance and urban connectivity.

What began as classroom concepts in GIS, programming and data visualization evolved into an interactive dashboard that asks a bigger question:

What can a map tell us when we stop looking at it… and start reading it?
