“Touching hearts while touching the moon” Acclaimed India on the 23rd of August 2023, while rejoicing in the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, as we became not only the 4th nation to achieve a soft landing, but also the first country to achieve a soft landing in the Moon’s southern polar region.

But India did not always have such a glorious past, being a country with extreme poverty, devastating famines, and a lack of basic essentials of life. This made it extremely difficult to think about anything other than survival. After all, it wasn't in its power for as long as around 500 years, but this was far from enough to stop the minds of Indians from exploring the depths of space. Minds, like those of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, who not only shaped but also transformed India's space journey into a global spectacle. With that came the launch of the first truly indigenous rocket, 'the Rohini-75 (RH-75)' in the year 1967 on 20th November, and then the first mission to the Moon, Chandrayaan-1, in 2008 on 22nd October. The key driving force behind all these explorations was an organization with immense enthusiasm and determination from the top scientists of the country, which make India's space exploration expeditions possible: ISRO, or the 'Indian Space Research Organisation'.

The journey since then has been far from easy, but we have far more places to explore. Work is underway on Chandrayaan-4, aimed at collecting samples from the Moon. The Gaganyaan mission, the Venus Orbiter Mission, and others are also in progress. These missions may not provide immediate returns, but their impact will leave an essence in the history of India’s space programme.

The rise of Indian space research and development has just begun, and its upcoming achievements will prove that being limited in finances for almost everything in life isn't so much of a bad thing. After all, believing in wings of our own is a decision far better than to trust the branch which we think of resting upon.

Humans have always wanted to rewind time and relive their past. And for that, the concept of time machines was created, which allowed us to go back in time. However, time machines don't exist. But what if there's still a way we can revisit our past, through a photograph?
One look at an old photograph and suddenly the past doesn't feel as distant. We remember the place, the people, and the little details we had forgotten. For a moment, we are back there again.

But a photograph is never just what we see inside the four boundary lines. Honestly, the photograph begins beyond it. When a photographer captures something, it reflects his or her thought process and imagination. They may see a story in a person, place, or some moment that makes them stop, feel it, and finally capture it. For example, Indian photographer Raghu Rai has captured many such moments through his lens, from the soul to the chaos of everyday life to the rich history of India, and much more! But the intriguing part is that the story does not always end with the photographer. It is just the beginning. The person looking at the same photograph may see something entirely different. A picture of a boy playing football might just be an aesthetic frame for someone. But someone else might perceive it as freedom, be reminded of their ambition, or even bring back childhood friendship moments. The photographer just captures one thought, but the photograph creates another.

And that is perhaps what makes photography so special. This World Photography Day, let's live the moments we capture, because the moment we capture today becomes a memory tomorrow!

India’s freedom struggle was shaped not only by great revolutionaries and leaders but also by writers, teachers, poets and ordinary citizens. One such remarkable yet lesser-known personality was Shyamlal Prasad Gupta.

Poet, teacher, journalist, writer- these were just a few of his titles. But above all, he was a freedom fighter. Born in Kanpur, Shyamlal Prasad Gupta became the voice of the freedom struggle. He is best known for writing and composing the patriotic song “Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga Pyara”, popularly known as the “Jhanda Geet”. This song celebrated the strong will of the Indian citizens to regain their independence and instilled a sense of patriotism in the hearts of people.

For Shyamlal Prasad Gupta, writing poetry was a way of expressing his commitment to the nation. He became an integral part of the freedom movement, and this patriotism also seeped into his personal life. Yet, his work went beyond politics and poetry. He helped establish and manage many educational institutions, an orphanage and a girls’ school. He was an advocate for women’s education and widow remarriage while opposing the dowry system. He believed that building a free India also required building an educated and compassionate society.

Nonetheless, his contributions were not overlooked. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1973. His contributions were celebrated again when the government of India issued a postage stamp in his honour in 1997. Yet his greatest legacy is not an award or a postage stamp, but a long-lasting memory of his song. The story of this revolutionary reminds us that history is not only about the people who raise their voices against injustice, but it is also about the people who can organise the masses with nothing but only their words.

He transformed mere words into a powerful source of courage. Shyamlal Prasad Gupta passed away on 10th August 1977, but his words still continue to ignite the flame of patriotism in every single heart even today.
