Dear All,

It is our immense pleasure to share that the Department has received an email on 4/8/2026 from Lance Strate, the President of the Institute of General Semantics (IGS), New York declaring that their Committee has decided to confer the Sanford I. Berman Award for excellence in teaching General Semantics to Professor Kamal Mehta this year. Often, the most basic in the field of education, that is teaching-learning, is overlooked in the process of gathering other quantifiable data.

Congratulations to Professor Mehta and the Department for being the only HEI center in India (and perhaps, Asia) for teaching and disseminating the ideas of General Semantics since 2010. General Semantics, or GS, as it is known, was an interdisciplinary domain of knowledge founded by the Polish-American mathematician, thinker, and World War I pilot, Alfred Korzybski, who believed that along with the progress in science human civilization must also maintain sanity, and be always open to communication over conflict - thoughts very relevant even today.

Wishes and regards,
