Her doctoral research, conducted under the supervision of Dr. Shachi Sood, is titled “Veiled Voices: A Feminist Study of the Selected Short Stories by Contemporary Afghan Women Writers.”

Ms. Shaista Rashid, Research scholar, Department of Botany, BGSB University has successfully defended her final Ph.D viva voce held on 19-08-2026. Ms. Shaista Rashid pursued her Ph.D research on the topic “ Polyamines and Proline mediated changes in growth and metabolism of Phaseolus vulgaris under drought stress” under the supervision of Dr. Mohd Asgher Assistant Professor, Department of Botany.
Her doctoral research helps to develop appropriate and cost effective strategies to improve the performance of crop plants under water deficit conditions. Plant growth regulators such as Polyamines and Osmoprotectants such as Proline are the potential signaling molecules for inducing drought tolerance in plants through chemical priming. Ms. Shaista Rashid has published her research work in prestigious and high impact journals. BGSB fraternity extends heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Shaista and wishes her success in all future endeavors.

University Polytechnic BGSBU Successfully Conducts Udyam Jagriti 5.0

Rajouri, 19 August 2026:
University Polytechnic, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), successfully conducted Udyam Jagriti 5.0, a campaign under Mission Yuva, aimed at creating awareness among Polytechnic students about entrepreneurship, innovation, start-ups and Government support mechanisms.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, congratulated University Polytechnic for successfully organizing the programme and appreciated the initiative aimed at nurturing entrepreneurial thinking and innovation among students. Registrar BGSBU, Shri Ravi Kumar Sihag, also applauded the efforts of University Polytechnic and appreciated the department for organizing such a meaningful and student-centric programme.

The programme was attended by around 150 students, along with Programme Coordinators and staff members of University Polytechnic.The programme commenced with a welcome address by Er. Mohd. Rafiq, Programme Coordinator, DEE, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of developing entrepreneurial awareness among Polytechnic students.This was followed by a video showcase on Udyam Jagriti 5.0, giving students an overview of the campaign and its objectives.

A detailed presentation was subsequently delivered by Dr. Shafqat Mughal, focusing on Udyam Jagriti 5.0, entrepreneurship and start-up opportunities in Jammu & Kashmir. He particularly emphasized the potential for young people to transform local resources, skills and innovative ideas into sustainable enterprises.

The students were then addressed by Mr. Karan Gupta, BHD, District Administration Rajouri, who provided valuable information regarding various Government schemes, support mechanisms and opportunities available to aspiring entrepreneurs. He motivated students to come forward with innovative ideas and make effective use of the assistance available through Government initiatives.

An interactive feedback session was also conducted, during which students shared their experiences, learning outcomes and suggestions.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Neetan Sharma, Placement Coordinator, University Polytechnic BGSBU, who expressed gratitude to the University authorities, District Administration, resource persons, Programme Coordinators, staff members and students for their valuable participation and support.

The programme successfully reinforced the message that Polytechnic students can become not only skilled professionals and job seekers, but also innovative entrepreneurs and job creators, contributing to the economic development of Jammu & Kashmir.

*Prof. T**i Xavier assumes office as first-woman Dean Academic Affairs of BGSBU*

Prof. T**i Xavier, Dean, School of Nursing & Biomedical Sciences / Principal Nursing College Rajouri, has been appointed as the first-woman Dean Academic Affairs of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri, pursuant to approval accorded by Hon’ble Chancellor, BGSB University (Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, J&K).

Prof. T**i Xavier has vast administrative and academic experience and under her leadership, the flagship Nursing Colleges of the University have consistently remained as preferred destination for students.

Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, Vice Chancellor BGSBU has congratulated Prof. T**i Xavier on assuming office as the first-woman Dean Academic Affairs of BGSBU. Prof. Jawaid Iqbal stated that, "Prof. T**i Xavier’s appointment as Dean Academic Affairs is a moment of great pride for BGSBU. Her vast experience, academic leadership, and commitment to excellence will greatly benefit the university. *Udyam Jagriti 5.0 under Mission YUVA held at BGSBU, Rajouri*

Rajouri, August 18, 2026: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, organised Udyam Jagriti 5.0 under Mission YUVA today with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members across all departments. Around 600 students and faculty members participated in the programme.

Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, appreciated the initiative and congratulated the organising team for successfully conducting Udyam Jagriti 5.0. He emphasised the importance of nurturing entrepreneurship and assured full cooperation and support from the University for such initiatives in the future.

Sh. Ravi Kumar Sihag, IAS, Registrar, BGSBU, also appreciated the efforts of the organisers and assured complete administrative support for strengthening the startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem at the University.

Dr. Vinod Puri, Coordinator, Institute Incubation Centre conducted the proceedings. Dr. Malik Mubasher Hassan, Convener, Training and Placement Cell and Nodal Officer, Mission YUVA, delivered the welcome address and provided an overview of the objectives and significance of Udyam Jagriti 5.0.

Dr. Farkhanda Ana, Nodal Officer, Mission YUVA and Member, Innovation and Startup Cell, delivered a detailed presentation on entrepreneurship in the context of Mission YUVA and explained how an innovative idea can be systematically developed and converted into a viable business venture.

Dr. Shafqat Nabi Mughal, Member, Training and Placement Cell and Principal, University Polytechnic, explained the practical process of registering and presenting an entrepreneurial idea and provided students with a roadmap towards establishing a business or startup.

Mr. Karan Gupta, Business Help Desk, Mission YUVA, District Administration, apprised the participants about the procedures, institutional support and available mechanisms for taking entrepreneurial ideas forward under Mission YUVA.

The programme witnessed active participation of faculty members and departmental Mission YUVA coordinators. The objectives of sensitising students towards entrepreneurship, innovation, self-employment and startup opportunities were successfully achieved.

BGSBU Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervour

Rajouri, August 15, 2026: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of the nation with great patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and pride. The celebrations highlighted the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and reaffirmed the University's commitment towards nation-building and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The celebrations commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, followed by the National Anthem. The Vice Chancellor extended warm greetings to the entire BGSBU fraternity and paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices made the country's independence possible.

In his address, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal particularly remembered the brave sons and daughters of Rajouri and Poonch, the land of martyrs, recalling the extraordinary courage and sacrifices of the heroes of the region, especially those who defended the nation during 1947–48. He observed that their sacrifices remind us that freedom is not merely a privilege but also a responsibility.

Emphasising India's remarkable journey during the 79 years since Independence, the Vice Chancellor said that the country now stands at the threshold of a new era, with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 calling upon every citizen, particularly the youth, to actively participate in nation-building.

Addressing the students, Prof. Iqbal said that “You are the architects of Viksit Bharat 2047”, and urged them to embrace discipline, innovation, integrity and the spirit of service. He emphasised that education should become an instrument of social transformation and encouraged students to use their knowledge to address challenges in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, technology, digital empowerment, entrepreneurship and development of border areas.

Highlighting the University's special responsibility as an institution of higher learning located in the strategically important Pir Panjal region, the Vice Chancellor stressed that BGSBU must equip its students not merely with degrees, but with knowledge, character, competence and a spirit of service.

He expressed the vision of making BGSBU an institution known not merely for producing graduates, but for building character, nurturing values and creating responsible citizens and nation-builders.

The Vice Chancellor also placed on record his appreciation for the continuous efforts of Shri Ravi Kumar Sihag, IAS, Registrar, BGSBU, for his dedication towards the development, governance and progress of the University. He also expressed gratitude to the entire University fraternity, including faculty members, officers, staff, students and security personnel, for their hard work, commitment and unwavering support in the continued development of BGSBU.

A vibrant cultural programme was organised as part of the celebrations, featuring patriotic songs, cultural performances and other presentations by students. The performances showcased the country's rich cultural heritage and created an atmosphere of patriotism and national pride across the University campus.

Faculty members, officers, staff, students and security personnel participated enthusiastically in the celebrations.

Concluding his address, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal called upon the University community to honour the sacrifices of the freedom fighters by working with unity, integrity, excellence and patriotism. He said that the freedom inherited from previous generations must be transformed by the present generation into opportunities, prosperity, knowledge and dignity for every Indian.

He urged the students and the University community to remember that the future of India is not something that will simply happen to us; it is something that we must build.
