Date -11.4.2026

We are proud to share that a team of students from our University, comprising Ms. Shreyanshi Singh, Ms. Rashi Kumari, Mr. Aman Upadhyay, and Mr. Nitesh Ranjan, represented the University in the Special Edition of the Willem C. Vis Post-Moot 2026 and have been adjudged Semi-Finalists in the competition.

The team was originally selected to participate in the 23rd Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2026; however, owing to the prevailing international conflict between Iran and Israel, the resulting travel concerns, and the tense global situations, the team was unable to travel abroad to participate physically in Hong Kong.
Recognising the unprecedented travel difficulties faced by several teams across the globe, the Vis Moot Organisation, for the very first time, introduced a Special Edition of the Willem C. Vis Post-Moot 2026, exclusively to accommodate teams who were unable to travel to Hong Kong and Vienna due to the prevailing global conflict and uncertainties.

Demonstrating remarkable resilience and dedication, our students participated in the virtual edition of the competition and delivered an exceptional performance, ultimately advancing to the Semi-Finals.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the team on this commendable achievement and wish them continued success in their future endeavours.

On April 9, 2026, Prof. Jai Shankar, Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Patiala, visited the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi. During his visit, he engaged in insightful interactions with both LL.M. students and faculty members, offering profound academic and philosophical perspectives on legal education and constitutional interpretation.

In his interaction with LL.M. students, Prof. Jai Shankar emphasized the critical importance of reading constitutional provisions verbatim. He highlighted that a careful and precise reading of the text is essential to truly understand the intent of the Constitution. Beyond the textual reading, he encouraged students to develop the ability to “read between the lines,” thereby appreciating the underlying philosophy, context, and implications embedded within constitutional language.

A significant part of his discussion focused on interpreting the Constitution of India through the lens of dharma, rather than solely relying on Western constructs such as the rule of law or the doctrine of separation of powers. He urged students to appreciate the indigenous philosophical foundations of the Indian constitutional framework, suggesting that a dharmic perspective offers a more holistic and culturally rooted understanding.

Prof. Jai Shankar also elaborated on the expression “procedure established by law” under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. He explained how it differs from the American concept of “due process of law,” noting that while the former emphasizes legality and statutory backing, the latter incorporates broader notions of fairness, reasonableness, and substantive justice. His discussion provided clarity on how Indian constitutional jurisprudence has evolved to harmonize these concepts over time.

In his interaction with the faculty, Prof. Jai Shankar reflected on the historical evolution and meaning of the term “Professor,” highlighting its origins and the high status associated with it in academia and society. He underscored the responsibility that comes with the title, particularly in shaping knowledge, guiding students, and contributing to intellectual discourse.

He also stressed the importance of teamwork among faculty members, noting that collaborative efforts not only elevate institutional standards but also contribute significantly to individual professional growth. According to him, a cohesive academic environment fosters innovation, research excellence, and academic leadership.

Further, he reiterated the well-known academic principle of “publish or perish,” encouraging faculty members to actively engage in research and publication. He urged them to contribute to both Indian and international journals, thereby enhancing the global visibility of their work and enriching academic scholarship.

The visit was highly enriching and left a lasting impact on both students and faculty, inspiring deeper engagement with constitutional studies, academic research, and institutional collaboration.

The technical sessions were effectively facilitated by Dr. Md. Tabrez and Mr. Narendra Sharma, whose expertise contributed significantly to unpacking complex psychosocial dimensions through participatory and comic-based pedagogical tools, ensuring both engagement and critical reflection among participants.
