Department of Mass Communication, Central University of Jharkhand Department of Mass Communication is one among the four departments started during the inception of t The students are admitted through a common admission test.

The Department is committed to excellence in imparting need-based education to ready the
students for media industry. The curriculum of two-year master's degree in Mass Communication is designed to develop advanced knowledge in the field of media
studies and to strengthen their communication skills. The Department for Mass Communication has an intake capacity of 40 students per year.

Three media teachers from different institutions recently visited the Department. They were here on the campus of Central University of Jharkhand to attend a Capacity Building Programme. Dr Shahanaz Zabi, Head, Department of Mass Communication, Usha Martin University, Ranchi, Dr Rashmi Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication, Karim City College, Jamshedpur and Dr Raju, Faculty from Department of Mass Communication, Rathinam Group of Institutions, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu visited the studios also.

Interaction on Radio Production!
Yesterday, three radio professionals visited the studio and interacted with students on various nuances of radio programme production. Mr. Xavier Kandulana, Assistant Director (Programme), Mr Prabhu Sharan (Programme Executive) and Mr Basant (Anchor), all from Akashwani Kendra, Ranchi, shared their experiences and answered queries of students. Mr Sharan emphasised acquiring the skill of writing an engaging script and a good presentation.

Tribal Film Festival!
A grand cultural festival - Swabhimani Birsa 2025 was organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of great freedom fighter Birsa Munda on the university campus. During this event, films displaying vibrant culture, life and issues were showcased in a Film Festival by the students and scholars of the Department. Besides various filmmakers - Mr. Meghnath, Mr. Niranjan Kujur, Mr. Seral Murmu, Mr. Maansingh Baskey, Mr. Ankush Kasera and film academician Ms. Sneha Mundari, film academic Dr. Neel Kusum Kullu from Jharkhand were also invited to deliberate on issues related to tribal cinema and academics. This event was coordinated by Dr. Sudarshan Yadav and Dr. Amrit Kumar, Assistant Professors in the Department.

Participation in First Tribal Film Festival 2025!
The three-day film festival concluded yesterday at the Tribal Welfare Research Institute in Ranchi. Showcasing a total of 52 feature films and documentaries made across the country, this festival attracted a huge number of filmmakers and film lovers. The students of the Department of Mass Communication also participated in this festival as volunteers, gaining the opportunity to interact with eminent filmmakers Meghnath, Biju Topo, Niranjan etc. They met documentary makers and academicians Prof. Anjali Monterio and Prof. P. Jaishankar (Formerly associated with TISS, Mumbai), who were among the jury in this festival.

CCL Vigilance Awareness Program!
To promote awareness among students, a team from Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) organised a Vigilance Awareness Program in the Department of Mass Communication. Ms Khushboo Lata, Manager, Vigilance, CCL and Dr Anita, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Gandhi Nagar Hospital, CCL, conducted a speech and slogan writing competition among students. Dr Rashmi Verma coordinated this program at the Department. In the Slogan Writing Competition, Sumedha Kumari secured the first prize, followed by Prashant Kumar Mishra in second place and Soma Rani Kundu, along with Atul Prakash, jointly winning the third prize. In the Speech Competition, Archana Kumari bagged the first prize, while Rashi Saha and Mrityunjay Kumar shared the second prize, and Palak Mishra received the third prize. In addition, Adarsh Rathore, Aakansha Singh, Saurabh Tiwari, and Arpit Kumar were honored with Appreciation Awards for their active participation.

Participation in AMIC Conference 2025!
Two PhD scholars from the Department presented their research papers in the prestigious 31st AMIC Annual Conference 2025 recently concluded in Mumbai during 9-11 October 2025. The title of the paper by Ms Kamalicka Das was "Gender Gaps in Digital Financial Literacy in Jharkhand, India: Barriers and Opportunities", and by Sameera Bhoi was "Media Literacy in Practice: Assessing and Addressing Competency Gaps among M.A. Mass Communication Students in Odisha and Jharkhand".

A Special Lecture by Prof. Surbhi Dahiya!
Yesterday, Prof. Surbhi Dahiya, Head, Department of Media Business Studies, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi, delivered a special lecture to the media students. The topic of her talk was 'Emerging Trends in the Indian Media Business'. She discussed various forms of media ownership patterns in Indian media and contemporary trends in the growth of digital media. Prof. Dev Vrat Singh, Dean of the School, welcomed her with flowers and appreciated her contributions to media studies, as reflected in various books. Dr Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, presented her a memento, and Dr Rashmi Verma, Assistant Professor, presented her a souvenir. Dr Amrit Kumar presented the vote of thanks. Dr Amrendra Kumar, Associate Professor, and Dr Sudarshan Yadav, Assistant Professor, along with Mr Ram Niwas Suthar, Technical Assistant, and many PhD scholars, were also present at the programme.

Good News!
Dr. Nazish Hena Khan has joined the prestigious Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, as Assistant Professor yesterday. She is the first PhD scholar of the Department of Mass Communication. For the past many years, she has been teaching in the Bharti College, Delhi University. Congratulations to Dr. Nazish Hena Khan, and all good wishes to her future academic pursuits.
