CSR Talk Series | Theme: ESG, EHS & Green CSR โ˜˜๏ธ

The Rural Management Programme of XISS and its Prakriti Club hosted an insightful session of the CSR Talk Series, featuring Mr Prashant Singh, Additional General Manager - LA, R&R & CSR, NTPC Limited and proud alumnus of PGDM-RD (Batch 2000-02).

Mr Singh explored the evolving landscape of CSR, covering its alignment with ESG, Green CSR and EHS, the statutory mandate under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 and how CSR can contribute to business through stakeholder trust, innovation and risk management. He also highlighted greenwashing and the need for genuine, impact-oriented sustainability practices.

*Key Takeaways*

๐Ÿ‘‰ CSR can go beyond statutory compliance by aligning with business strategy, sustainability and long-term goals.

๐Ÿ‘‰ The focus should be on creating impact, asking what problems a company can uniquely address rather than simply how much it can spend.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Green CSR and EHS highlighted the integration of environmental responsibility, occupational safety and social concerns into business and CSR practices.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Students were introduced to emerging social-impact financing mechanisms, including the Social Stock Exchange, Zero Coupon Zero Principal instruments and Social Impact Bonds.

The session helped Rural Management students connect development and community engagement with corporate strategy, sustainability and impact-oriented practice. Initiatives like these reflect XISS continued commitment to holistic education, intellectual growth and the development of socially conscious professionals.

On 21 August 2026, the first-year students of the Rural Management Programme embarked on their Study Tour to Jamshedpur, gaining first hand exposure to diverse approaches to CSR and community development. The students visited Tata Steel Foundation, Tata Power CSR, and Tata Motors & CSR, exploring their initiatives across various sectors of social development.
Supervised by our esteemed faculty โ€“ Dr Raj Shree Verma, Dr Pramil K Panda, and Dr Niranjan Sahoo โ€“ the students engaged with communities and organisational teams to understand how CSR initiatives are designed and implemented at the grassroots level. The visits provided valuable insights into community engagement, healthcare, education, livelihoods, tribal development, and other areas of social impact.
Through these interactions and field experiences, the students gained a deeper understanding of the role of organisations in fostering inclusive and sustainable development, while connecting classroom concepts with real-world practices.

Team Prakriti hopes that this experience enriched the studentsโ€™ perspective on CSR and rural development and helped them bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application. XISS promotes this experiential learning and provides students with opportunities to engage with real-world development practices.
