Differences between SAUCE & KETCHUP :
KETCHUP is made with tomatoes, sugar, vinegar/acetic acid & spices. Ketchup has a specific amount of sugar & other sweet spices. It is used as a dressing or table condiment. Ketchup, the word originated from Chinese "koechiap" meaning brine of fish, or generally mentioned as spicy sauce. Ketchup originally supposed to have been invented in the 17th century & was related to a sauce that contained fish brine, herbs & spices as main ingredients. In the 18th & 19th century, the term was used to refer to all the sauces with vinegar, as one of the major ingredients. Ketchup is a sauce but not all sauces are ketchup.
SAUCE is made from vegetables like tomatoes and oil, meat or vegetable stock & spices. Sauce generally does not contain sugar. The word sauce is derived from the Latin word salsas, that mean 'salted'. Sauces can also be thin gravy.
