The department is proud to announce that Prof. Bhishma Tyagi (Associate Professor) received IMS Associate Fellow award during INTROMET 2025. Earlier in 2024, Prof. Jagabandhu Panda also received the prestigious recognition too. Both of the faculty members received the awards for their outstanding contributions to Atmospheric Science in terms of research publications and scientific contributions in their respective areas. Besides, Prof. Nagaraju Chilukoti also bestowed with IMS Young Scientist award during INTROMET 2025.

Congratulations to Prof. Jagabandhu Panda and Prof. Vikas Kumar Das for joining the Editorial Board of the Journal of Scientific Reports published by Nature group (Springer Nature). Prof. Panda is also acting as a guest editor along with Prof. Krishna Kishore Osuri for a special issue of Meteorological Applications on the topic related to land-atmospheric interactions. Meteorological Applications is a journal of Royal Meteorological Society, United Kingdom. Among other faculty members, Prof. B. Tyagi is currently part of the Editorial Board of Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics (MAAP). MAAP is published by Springer Nature. The department also congratulates to Prof Krishna and Prof.Tyagi for these notable achievements and works.

Recently, the planetary science works from the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, NIT Rourkela was represented by Mr. Anirban Mandal at EPSC (Euro Planet Science Congress)-DPS (Division for Planetary Sciences, part of American Astronomical Society) joint meeting 2025, held at Helsinki, Finland. He presented a talk relating to Martian dust storms.

Hello Guys, this is to share with you a great news that NIT Rourkela has improved its NIRF ranking in Engineering ( #13) and Planning and Architecture ( #07) category, while maintaining itself at #30 and #34 in research and overall categories. In SDG ranking, it is placed at #09. All the stakeholders of our department (MSc, MTech and PhD students, alumni, and faculty members) have contributed for this and therefore they deserve to be congratulated on this recognition.

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, National Institute of Technology Rourkela congratulates our alumni Dr. Dibyasakti Panda for securing a permanent faculty position at the Central University of Tamil Nadu. He completed his PhD from this department in the year 2021 and MSc in Applied Geology in the year 2016.

One of our 2023-25 batch MSc Atmospheric Sciences student namely Pramit Majumder recently qualified UGC-NET examination in Environmental Sciences and is eligible for Assistant Professor and PhD positions. The department feels proud for his achievement and wishes him a great future ahead.

1. Dr. Bhaskar Kundu got Krishnan medal from Indian Geophysical Union.

2. Prof. Jagabandhu Panda got Indian Meteorological Society Associate Fellow award.
