Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, called on Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, in New Delhi today.
During the meeting, Prof. Ahuja briefed the Hon’ble Minister on the cutting-edge research and technology being developed at IIT Ropar that holds direct relevance to India’s evolving road and transport ecosystem. He also briefed the Minister about the Centre of Excellence “HiMPaTH (Himalayan Pathways for Transport & Highways)” at IIT Ropar and extended a formal invitation to inaugurate the same. Shri Nitin Gadkari graciously accepted the invitation, marking a strong commitment toward advancing road infrastructure research for India’s challenging mountainous terrains.
IIT Ropar, situated on the banks of the Sutlej in Rupnagar, Punjab, has been at the forefront of research in energy materials, green hydrogen production and storage, and next-generation power systems. The institute’s work directly aligns with the national priorities championed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, including the push for green mobility, road safety through technology, and the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Dr. Surya Kant Sahdeo, Assistant Professor (Civil) and Dean (Hostel Management), was also present on the occasion.
