At The Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur, learning is built around real-world exposure, industry interaction, and future-focused skill development.

In this video, students from the first cohort of the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) programme shared how their academic journey is enriched through expert-led sessions, internships, conclaves, and continuous industry engagement.

From interactions with professionals from organizations like Google and Accenture to internship opportunities with reputed social impact organizations such as Goonj and Akshaya Patra, students gain practical insights alongside classroom learning.

Events like Brand in India Conclave, and Navyug further provide a platform to engage with industry leaders, understand emerging trends, and build professional networks early in their careers.

The programme also empowers students with access to online learning platforms like Coursera and multidisciplinary courses, helping them develop industry-relevant skills and stay ahead in an evolving professional landscape.

Pleased to share that we have successfully concluded the Research Week at IIM Sambalpur, held from 11th May to 15th May, 2026.

It encompassed five days of focused learning, critical dialogue, and academic community building.

The week brought together faculty members and research scholars from IIM Sambalpur and other reputed Indian institutes for a series of sessions, designed to strengthen the research ecosystem. The research week primarily focused on two areas: experimental methods and text/social media analytics.

Special thanks to Prof. Sanjeev Tripathi (IIM Indore), Prof. Mohd. Mujahid Khan (IIM Amritsar), Prof. Atanu Dey (IIM Sambalpur), and Prof. Keshav Kaushik (IIM Sambalpur) for conducting their respective sessions, with clarity, precision and finesse.

Sincere thanks to the Honourable Director (Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal), PhD Chair (Prof. Sandip Mukhopadhyay), and Chair Research and Consultancy (Prof. Kaustov Chakraborty) for curating such a meaningful week.

Most importantly, thanks to our research scholars, whose commitment drives IIM Sambalpur’s research agenda forward.

Guest Expert Session | Mr. Prasad Shetkar | Fundamentals of Programming
As part of the academic enrichment initiatives under the B.S. (Bachelor of Science) Programmes at IIM Sambalpur, Mr. Prasad Shetkar, Senior Computer Scientist at Adobe India, delivered an insightful session on core Python concepts.

He covered key topics including Sets, Tuples, Dictionaries, and Functions, explaining their role in efficient programming and real-world applications. Through practical examples, he demonstrated how sets help in deduplication, tuples ensure data integrity, and dictionaries enable effective data handling in large-scale systems.

By connecting theoretical concepts with industry practices, he highlighted the importance of modularity, reusability, and clean coding through functions. His session provided valuable insights into how these programming fundamentals are applied in real-world engineering environments.
The expert session enhanced students’ understanding of core programming concepts and reinforced their practical relevance in modern technology-driven industries.

Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur invites submissions for the 12th Indian Academy of Management Conference (INDAM 2027) on the theme: “Reimagining Management in the Era of Disruption.”

Guest Expert Session | Dr. Mudit Kapoor | Programming Language – II

As part of the academic enrichment initiatives under the B.S. (Bachelor of Science) Programmes at IIM Sambalpur, Dr. Mudit Kapoor delivered an insightful session on modern technologies shaping software development.

He introduced key tools and concepts in data science, including NumPy and Pandas, highlighting their importance in numerical computation and data analysis. The session also covered data visualization using Matplotlib, where he explained various plots such as line graphs, bar charts, histograms, scatter plots, and heatmaps, enabling students to better interpret and present data.

Expanding into application development, he introduced FastAPI, demonstrating how to build efficient APIs, create endpoints, and develop backend services. He also covered the fundamentals of GitHub, emphasizing version control and collaborative coding practices essential in real-world projects.
By showcasing the use of AI tools in VS Code, he highlighted how artificial intelligence can enhance coding efficiency, debugging, and overall productivity. Through practical insights and real-world connections, he illustrated how data science, APIs, and AI are transforming modern software development.

The expert session strengthened students’ technical understanding and provided valuable exposure to industry-relevant tools and practices.

Guest Expert Session | Mr. Subham Chakraborty | Quantitative Techniques – II

As part of the academic enrichment initiatives under the B.S. (Bachelor of Science) Programmes at IIM Sambalpur, Mr. Subham Chakraborty delivered an insightful session on Linear Programming and its practical applications.

He focused on key concepts such as problem formulation and the graphical method, explaining constraints, feasible regions, and optimal solutions in a clear and structured manner. By breaking down complex ideas step by step, he made the concepts intuitive and easy to understand.

By connecting theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, he highlighted the relevance of Linear Programming in decision-making and optimization problems. His interactive teaching approach encouraged active participation, with students engaging in discussions and clarifying their doubts throughout the session.

The expert session strengthened students’ conceptual understanding and enhanced their confidence in solving quantitative problems, making it a valuable addition to their academic learning.

IIM Sambalpur in collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad, organised an AI Workshop under the newly launched AI4Odisha initiative on the theme “AI for Business Growth: From Local Markets to National Reach”, virtually inaugurated by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Honourable Union Minister of Education, Government of India.

The workshop was graced by Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur; Prof. Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIM Ahmedabad; Shri Himanshu Lal, IPS, Inspector General, North Division, Sambalpur; Ms. Ankur Sohanpal, Founder Learning, IIMA Ventures; and Mr. Gopal Shah, Ideator, AI4Odisha Ecosystem Partner.

Industry leaders and AI experts including Mr. Shankar RNS from ZOHO, Claude & Gemini, Ms. Shruti Bijawat, Business Unit Head, Microsoft, Mr. Harsh*t Thaker, Co-Founder & CEO, Berrywise, and Mr. Amish Thaker, Founder & CEO, Visity, shared practical insights on how Artificial Intelligence is transforming businesses through smarter customer engagement, workflow optimisation, and data-driven decision-making.
