On 24 September, the Migration, Mobility and Citizenship (MMC) Cluster of the Centre for Asian Studies (CAS), GITAM, organised the second lecture in the Asian Mobilities MMC Lecture Series, titled Gender Exclusion and Lived Experiences of Citizenship in Assam, by Dr. Anjuman Ara Begum. Dr. Anjuman explored the experience of citizenship in Assam and its intersection with gender, highlighting how gender and socio economic conditions deepen exclusion. lecture was followed by discussions by Dr. Sucharita Sengupta and Dr. Tejal Khanna from the MMC cluster and questions and comments from other participants.

The school congratulates Dr. J. D. Prabhakar, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Other Languages, GITAM Hyderabad, on being invited as a guest speaker at Suravaram Pratapa Reddy Telugu University on the occasion of Telangana Language Day on 9th September.

In his address, drawing on Kaloji’s vision of the democratization of language, he highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting the mother tongue in professional and social spheres, as well as using it as a medium of instruction in educational settings.
He was felicitated by eminent dignitaries including Dr. Nandini Sidda Reddy, First Chairman, Telangana Sahitya Akademi, Dr. K. V. V. Satyanarayana Raju, President, Chaitanya Saraswatha Parishad Mr. Trivikrama Rao, President, Andhra Pradesh Official Language Commission and Mandali Krishnarao Official Language Commission and Dr. P. The seventh talk of Research Dialogues- the Fortnightly Faculty Seminar Series organised by the IRC-GSHS Hyderabad, was delivered by Dr. Pritikana Karmakar, Assistant Professor in the Department of English & Other Languages, GSHS on 9th September 2026. She spoke on Homeless Near a Thousand Homes: Scapegoating & Epidemic Exodus of Indian Migrant Workers in Puja Changoiwala's Homebound.

Examining Puja Changoiwala's Homebound (2021), the study demonstrates how the fear of an all-invasive virus is spread through the rapid mobility of information, generating hypersensitiveness about borders, both physical and social – an epidemic of fear leading to the casual cruelty of inhibiting the mobility of people whose lives are sustained through movement.

Dr. Laxmi Priyanka, Department of Applied Psychology, GITAM, Hyderabad presented her research titled AI in Therapy: Bridging the Gap or Replacing Human Empathy? at the National Academy of Psychology (NAoP) Conference held at IIM Shillong.

The Department of Sociology, GSHS Hyderabad, organized an invited talk on No Single Lens in Enough: Challenges of Interdisciplinary Research on Human Trafficking in India today. It was delivered by Dr. Ajailiu Niumai, Professor of Sociology, University of Hyderabad. The event was chaired by Dr. Rathin Roy, Dean, GSHS.
Dr. Niumai highlighted the complex and multidimensional nature of human trafficking, emphasizing that it cannot be understood through a single disciplinary perspective. She explained that trafficking is rooted in economic, political, historical, and cultural factors and therefore demands on interdisciplinary research.
She identified poverty, unemployment, gender inequality, and social discrimination as the major drivers of trafficking and emphasized the need for stronger policies, rehabilitation measures, and financial support for vulnerable communities.
During the interactive session, Dr. Niumai said that the ultimate objective of her research is to inform policymakers and contribute to developing effective strategies to make India free from human trafficking.
