Vid. Sri D. Srinivas is a distinguished Veena maestro and the first and only artiste from the Telugu States to represent India at the United Nations, showcasing Indian cultural heritage. A recipient of the Best Vainika Award from the Madras Music Academy (2011) and Ugadi Viśiṣṭa Puraskāram, he is also the first artiste from Telangana to perform at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. Trained from the age of nine under his mother Smt. D. L. Tulasi, and later under Vidwan Sri N. S. Srinivasan, he is celebrated for his classicism and refined technique. A Top Grade Veena Artiste of All India Radio, he has performed extensively across India and internationally for over two decades. Chosen by the Sangeet Natak Akademi and empanelled with ICCR, he has shared the stage with legends like Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and Dr. L. Subrahmanyam. The Department of Sociology at GITAM, Hyderabad arranged a field visit on 11h September for GSHS students to the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) located in Patancheru. During the visit, students received an overview of the significance and scientific aspects of crop research and improvement. They also participated in a guided tour showcasing various processes related to key crops suited for dryland agri-food systems, including millets, sorghum, groundnut, and other relevant crops. Our students also got an opportunity to interact with the DG of ICRISAT.

We are happy to share that Dr Avinash & Dr Saqib Khan from the Department of Sociology attended and presented their paper in the "International Conference on Agrarian Change" organised by the Foundation for Agrarian Studies in Trivandrum, Kerala from 6th-9th November 2025. The paper received good response and comments from eminent academicians like Jens Lerche, John Harriss & Madhura Swaminathan. The conference hosted scholars and speakers from around the world researching in the field of agrarian studies.

We are excited to conduct a workshop on "Weaving Movements" by a wonderful Dancer and Art Researcher Dr. S. Jayachandran. All are welcome!

Jayachandran is a practisioner of dance who works on the formal nature of Art. He is
a Lecturer at Center for Exact Humanities, IIIT Hyderabad . He joined Kalakshetra Foundation as part of research and documentation and later served as Asst. Professor at Kalakshetra. . Jayachandran started
Bharatanatyam training under Smt.Meera Narayanan and Sri.Gopinathan. Later his dance
education was broadened under the tutelage of Smt.Leela Samson, Prof.C.V.Chandrashekar
and Smt.Jaya Chandrashekar and Smt.Bragha Bessell.
Jayachandran did Diploma in Saiva Siddhanta, B.A. History, M.A. History, M.A
Philosophy, M.A. Bharatanatyam and a PhD in Dance. His research focuses on form-neutral
style-neutral universal dance fundamentals. As part of his research, the pedagogical tool he
designed for teaching universal dance fundamentals was granted a design patent from India
Patent Office, and is the first dance teaching tool in India to receive a design patent.
He has also researched significantly on the Temples of Tiruvarur and Chidambaram
and has presented lectures on the same. His paper ‘Tiruvarur sthalam as interpreted in
Smt.Rukmini Devi’s choreography’ has won him the best lecture-demonstration award from
the Music Academy. His paper on ‘Architecture and Choreography – a comparative analysis’
has been featured in the web–site www.shabda.co.in. He was featured in the ‘The Silent Burn
Project ’ a video in celebration of 20 years of Akram Khan Dance Company, UK.
As a performer Jayachandran has done many solo shows. He has choreographed many
solo and group thematic works. A sought after speaker and a resource person, Jayachandran
has delivered several lectures, conducted many workshops and training under the auspices of
several reputed Art organisations. Jayachandran continues to research, write papers, teach and lecture subjects of his interest.
