After conducting intra-college in 2016, QuizBuzz was back with the second edition (QuizBuzz 2017). This time being the First Inter-College General Quiz in the History of MNR.
With 25 teams or over 70 players taking part, it was an audience never seen before.
The Prelims had 20 questions and top 6 teams were selected for the Finals. Four teams which missed out the final cut by just a couple of points were:
- Asgardians (Sai Ram Gupta, Srinivas, Sandeep) from MNR Medical College.
- Curious Duos (Deeksha Tiwari, Sirisha) from Mallareddy Institute of Medical Sciences.
- Black Pearls (Puneetha Kota, Raghuram, Meghana) from MNR Medical College.
- Tritons (Dhathri, Krishnamadhuri, Vidya) from Mamatha Medical College.
The 6 finalists as per prelims score were:
1. Bundle of Hers (Syeda Asna Hashmi, Apoorva Pandharpurkar, Tejaswini Jujjavarapu) from Gandhi Medical College.
2. Rovanzers (Surya Teja Meka, Ravi Porandla, Siddharth Yadav) from MNR Medical College.
3. The Princess Is In An Another Castle (Syed Murtuza Hashmi, Abdus Sattar) from Osmania Medical College.
4. Adroitz (Bhoopal Reddy, Roshan Kumar, Anup Rao) from MNR Medical College.
5. Sunrisers (Venkat Sai Chavali, Madhan Mohan Reddy Ayyanagari, Harinadh Reddy) from MNR Medical College.
6. PVR Medicos (Ratnamala Karri, Praneet Murthika, Vamshi Krishna Pagidimari) from MNR Medical College.
Brand new format ranged from Written to Bidding & Pounce to Differential Scoring. The Finals had 5 rounds in total:
After round 1 (written: india), we saw 'The Princess Is In An Another Castle' taking lead. Just behind were 'Rovanzers' and 'Adroitz'.
Second round saw heavy pouncing from 'Rovanzers'. At the end of round 2, 'Rovanzers' surpassed 'The Princess Is In An Another Castle'.
After round 3 (written: world), the standings remained same after teams scoring almost the same in differential scoring.
Round 4 saw amazing pounces by 'Rovanzers' and 'The Princess Is In An Another Castle' took handsome lead over others. Clearly, they were set to battle out in the final round. Adroitz, a team composed of 1st year students, were slowly but surely pushing ahead with subtle pounces and passes. 'PVR Medicos' were slow in the beginning but got a hold of the game and gave some brilliant guesses. 'Bundle of Hers' seemed confident after scoring high in Prelims. But they were playing cautiously here. 'Bundle of Hers', 'PVR Medicos' & 'Adroitz' battling for the third position.
However, 'Sunrisers' were struggling to score points. Taking negatives during pounce, they were pushed to sixth position.
Final round had a format called 'Bid Your Pick'. With infinite points to offer, it saw the standings change upside down. First half of the bids were cautious and low, many bagged by 'Rovanzers' and 'The Princess Is In An Another Castle'. Sometimes getting negatives too. There were some heavy bids by 'Bundle of Hers' and 'Sunrisers'. 'Sunrisers' were battling to stay in contention. 'PVR Medicos' & 'Adroitz' decided to play cautiously with no bids, but taking points on pounces and passes.
After the announcement of scores after first half, the teams decided to hit the throttle. 'Rovanzers', 'The Princess Is In An Another Castle' & 'Bundle of Hers' started bidding for the topic, 'Animation'. It went on until 'The Princess Is In An Another Castle' bagged the bid at a whopping 690 points. This was the gamble which paid off for 'The Princess Is In An Another Castle'. 'Rovanzers' & 'Bundle of Hers' got it on the pounce but it wasn't enough. 'Sunrisers', 'PVR Medicos' & 'Adroitz got it wrong on the pounce and they were eliminated automatically.
Before the final question of the day, 'The Princess Is In An Another Castle' were smiling as they clearly stood first. The battle remained between 'Rovanzers' & 'Bundle of Hers' for the second position and 'Rovanzers' had the last laugh.
The Final Standings:
Winners: The Princess Is In An Another Castle (Syed Murtuza Hashmi, Abdus Sattar) from Osmania Medical College.
1st Runners: (Surya Teja Meka, Ravi Porandla, Siddharth Yadav) from MNR Medical College.
2nd Runners: Bundle of Hers (Syeda Asna Hashmi, Apoorva Pandharpurkar, Tejaswini Jujjavarapu) from Gandhi Medical College.
Apart from the accolades for the winners and runners, the certificates for the finalists were given by Principal of MNR Medical College.
A special mention to all the organisers of Aadhvidhya 2k17 - an inter-college academic conference (Ganesh Gani, Manasa Lakshmi, Thallapally Ramakrishna, Vamshidhar Reddy, Sai Kiran Kommu, Shivani Anabheri, Viharika Chowdary Pavuluri, Yashwanth Etta) & Student Council team (Ajinkya, Sweta Jambi) for organising flawlessly and for giving us the opportunity. Thanks to volunteers (esp. Aditya Kumar Verma & Zaki Zafar Jahangir) for making this a grand success.
We hope the players and audience had a fun-filled time with loads of adrenaline. We will be back next year with much more vigour and bonanza for the third edition (QuizBuzz 2018). Stay aware!
