Celebration of International Museum Day and Inauguration of a Micromuseum at IIEST Shibpur
Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur celebrated the International Museum Day on 18th May, 2026 at the Slater Hall. To mark the occasion, Smt. Tejaswini AnanthKumar, Dr. HC., Chairperson, BoG, IIEST Shibpur inaugurated a Micromuseum, in the room adjacent to the Institute Archive, Slater Hall. The Micromuseum houses historical and scientific artefacts, namely almost a century old bench vice, a seismograph gifted by The California Institute of Technology (Caltech), articles from the era of World War – II, including one aircraft camera, and other priceless articles. During the inauguration, Smt. Tejaswini AnanthKumar, Dr. HC., Chairperson, BoG, IIEST Shibpur remarked that preserving scientific heritage is not about protecting the past alone but is about inspiring students to innovate, discover, and serve the nation through knowledge. Prof. VMSR Murthy, Director, IIEST Shibpur hoped that the Micromuseum will act as a bridge between legacy and innovation. The Mircomuseum is curated by Dr. Bivore Das, Assistant Registrar, IIEST Shibpur. Sri. Dayanidhi Urmaliya, National Advisory Board Member of the Entrepreneurship and Rural Development Centre (ERDC), Prof. Debdulal Das, Dean (Students’ Welfare), IIEST Shibpur, Prof. Chinmoy Bhattacharya, Dean (Faculty Welfare), IIEST Shibpur, faculty members, officers, staff members, students and other enthusiastic participants were present on the occasion.
