Sanchaman Limboo Government College, Aarigaon, Gyalshing It is running in college is established at Yangthang, Tikjeck 5km away from the District Headquarter Gyalshing.

Sikkim Government College, Yangthang, Gyalshing was established on 28th of June 2011, as an institute designed to cater to the growing needs of higher education for the students of West Districts of Sikkim and other parts of the country in general. It is a co-educational institute and is affiliated to Sikkim University.The college follows the Semester system and the medium of teaching is English.

The college offers General and Honours courses in English, Economics, History, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Physical Education, Education, Tourism, Nepali, Bhutia, Limboo, Lepcha and commerce. A total of 60 Lecturers constitute the strength of the teaching faculty.

Orientation Programme 2026 SMLGC, Gyalshing

The Counselling Cell, Sanchaman Limboo Government College (SMLGC), Gyalshing, successfully organized the Orientation Programme 2026 for newly admitted 1st Semester students on 6 August 2026 at the College Auditorium.

The programme aimed to familiarize the new students with the college’s academic environment, institutional policies, student support services, library facilities, GSU, SRC, NEP framework, SWAYAM, Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), NCC, NSS, sports, cultural and literary activities, scholarships, and other co-curricular opportunities.

A special emphasis was also placed on maintaining a Drug-Free Campus, encouraging students to uphold a safe, healthy, disciplined and positive academic environment free from drugs and substance abuse.

The programme was attended by the Principal, Vice Principal, Dean of Students’ Affairs, HoDs, faculty members, Librarian, coordinators and student representatives, who welcomed and guided the newly admitted students.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Kabita Gurung, Convenor, Counselling Cell.

RED RIBBON CLUB (RRC)

Gyalshing, 25 June 2026: On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day and World Blood Donor Week, the Sikkim State Blood Transfusion Council (SSBTC), Gangtok, in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club (RRC), felicitated institutions for their outstanding contribution to voluntary blood donation and their continued support to patients across Sikkim.
Sanchaman Limboo Government College (SMLGC), Aarigaon, Gyalshing was among the institutions honoured for its consistent efforts in organizing voluntary blood donation camps.
On the same occasion, Mr. Pem Dorjee Lepcha, RRC Coordinator/Nodal Teacher of SMLGC, Gyalshing, along with two newly nominated Peer Educators (one male and one female), participated in a One-Day Training Programme on “HIV/AIDS and Related Issues” for RRC Nodal Teachers-cum-Peer Educators. The programme was organized by the Sikkim State AIDS Control Society (SSACS) to strengthen awareness, leadership, and HIV/AIDS education among young people.

Valedictory Programme of On-the-Job Training (OJT)

On 12th June 2026, the Department of Tourism organized a Valedictory Programme to mark the successful completion of the On-the-Job Training (OJT) undertaken by the final-year students from 18th May to 30th May 2026.
The programme was graced by the Chief Guest, Mr. Keshav Pradhan, President of the Pelling Tourism Development Association (PTDA), Pelling, accompanied by Mr. Nirmal Rai, Vice President of PTDA, Pelling. The programme was further enriched by the presence of our esteemed Vice Principal, Mr. Birkha Man S***a, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Thupten Palzang Bhutia, who spared their valuable time to be with us.
The programme commenced with the Lighting of the Lamp, followed by the Welcome Address. The gathering was then enlightened by the Chief Guest, who shared his vast experience and insights from the tourism industry. This was followed by the students’ sharing of their OJT experiences. A Token of Appreciation was presented to the Chief Guest, followed by Certificate Distribution, the Vote of Thanks, and refreshments.
In his address, Mr. Keshav Pradhan highlighted the significance of the tourism industry in Sikkim. He emphasized the role of the hospitality sector in promoting cultural tourism and explained how OJT helps students gain practical exposure for their future careers in the hospitality industry. He also encouraged students to seize the opportunities available in the tourism sector, particularly in the development and management of homestays.
Our Vice Principal, Mr. Birkha Man S***a, also highlighted the growing tourism industry and the numerous opportunities it offers to students. Dr. Thupten Palzang Bhutia, Dean of Student Affairs, shared his words of wisdom and motivated the students to pursue their careers with dedication and commitment.
Dr. Dawa Doma Sherpa, Head of the Department expressed her sincere gratitude on behalf of the Department of Tourism to the President and the executive members of PTDA for their continuous support in arranging On-the-Job Training opportunities for the final-year students over the years.
The programme concluded successfully with the collective efforts and support of my dear Colleagues, Mr. Sangam Rai, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Amit Rai, Assistant Professor, along with the enthusiastic participation of the students and Mr. Samuel S***a, 2nd Semester Tourism Honours student for effectively serving as the Master of Ceremony of the Programme.
