The Department of Mining Engineering is organizing a workshop focused on AI-powered insights for optimizing drilling and blasting operations.

The session will be delivered by Dr. Sri Chandrahans Nidumukkala, Ph.D, Senior Solution Engineer at Strayos and alumnus of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. He will share industry-oriented insights on the application of artificial intelligence in modern mining practices.

The workshop will cover how data-driven tools and AI-based solutions are improving blast design, operational efficiency, safety, and overall productivity in mining operations. This session will help participants understand the practical role of AI in advancing smart and sustainable mining.

The Department of Mining Engineering, BIT Sindri congratulates Abhishek Baske and Akshay Kumar (Batch 2022–26) on the successful publication of their research paper titled “Artificial Intelligence for Mining Safety: A Chatbot Solution for Indian Statutory Provisions" in the scopus indexed journal Mining Technology. Their work highlights the potential of Artificial Intelligence in improving accessibility to mining safety regulations and statutory provisions in India.

The research focuses on developing an intelligent chatbot system that can assist mining professionals and students in quickly retrieving relevant safety regulations, thereby supporting better compliance and informed decision-making in the mining sector.

The work was carried out under the guidance of Prof. Roshan Kumar (Department of Mining Engineering, BIT Sindri) and Prof. Aditya Pandey (Department of Mining Engineering, IIT Kharagpur). The department wishes them continued success in their academic and research pursuits.

We are pleased to inform you that Shri Ujjwal Tah, Director General, Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, has felicitated Shri Rajnish Kumar Singh, B.Tech., 2nd-year (3rd-semester) student from the Department of Mining Engineering, BIT Sindri, Dhanbad. He was selected for felicitation in recognition of his valuable contributions to the field of Safety and Health in Mining.
The felicitation was held on the occasion of the 125th Foundation Day of DGMS on January 7, 2026, at the DGMS HQ, Dhanbad, Jharkhand.
