JDU Leader Meets Lieutenant Governor, Raises NH-44 Lethpora–Barsoo Public Safety Concerns

Srinagar, August 1: Janata Dal (United) Jammu & Kashmir UT State Secretary and In-charge District President Pulwama, Ishfaq Ahmad Rather, called on the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday and raised several important public issues, with special emphasis on the growing safety concerns at the NH-44 Lethpora–Barsoo crossing in Pulwama district.

During the meeting, Rather informed the Lieutenant Governor that the closure of the pedestrian crossing on the busy National Highway has forced school children, women, elderly citizens and other local residents to climb over highway crash barriers to cross the road, exposing them to serious risk on a daily basis.

He urged the Lieutenant Governor to direct the concerned authorities, including the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), to take immediate measures to restore the pedestrian crossing or provide a permanent solution by constructing a Foot Over Bridge (FOB) or a Pedestrian Underpass for the safety and convenience of commuters.

Rather also highlighted several other important public issues, including the improvement of the Latpora–Khrew Road, the completion of the Dogripora–Awantipora Bridge,health and education sector and various developmental concerns affecting the people of Pulwama district.

The Lieutenant Governor gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and assured that the matters would be examined and appropriate action would be taken.

Speaking after the meeting, Ishfaq Ahmad Rather said that the safety of the people, particularly school-going children, women and senior citizens, cannot be compromised. He expressed confidence that the Lieutenant Governor's intervention would help ensure an early and lasting solution to the long-pending public safety issue at the Lethpora–Barsoo crossing, besides facilitating progress on other developmental concerns raised during the meeting.

Mehbooba M***i apologises after backlash over Jantar Mantar pellet remark


PDP President Mehbooba M***i on Tuesday issued an unconditional apology over her controversial "Kashmir ka toh banta hai" remark made during a media interaction at Jantar Mantar last week. Clarifying the controversy, she said the viral video was authentic but maintained that her remarks were unintentional and did not reflect her intended message. “I intended to say ‘bahana banta hai’, but instead slipped and uttered only ‘banta hai’.” she said.
Mehbooba M***i said that the National Conference is trying to portray the situation as if I had signed the ex*****on orders of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat, or as if I had called for Kashmiris to be "crushed" or "run over."
