Catering the need and fulfilling the long felt demand of the local people sundargarh Women’s college as a private under graduate college, with the enthusiasm and ungrudging efforts of some of the local elite, took its birth on the day of janmastami, the 25th. club premises to the then Panchayatiraj Bhawan Building, where the institution is functioning till date. The present college building stretched over 3.96 acre of land hand handed over to the college by the then department of Panchayatiraj.About 10.63 acre of land proposed by the site selection committee, a piece of Government land adjacent to the college, is under process for its records of right to the college. Apart from the building handed over by the P.R.Department the college is developing the infrastructure with master plan of its own. A small college with a small building sundargarh women’s college marched ahead as Government Women’s college, Sundargarh and has completed 28 years of imparting quality education to the Women folk of the area.H.E Sri M.M. Rajendranan, the than Governor of Orissa who inaugurated the Silver jubilee celebration of the college recorded the significant achievements of the college recorded the significant achievements of the institution in the bye-gone 25 years, in this small district headquarters town of this scheduled district of sundargarh.

Anti-ragging Day was celebrated on 12th August 2025 under the chairmanship of Principal Dr. Indira Garnaik. Videos were shown to the students relating Anti-ragging and its effect on students, rules and punishment for those who practiced ragging. Then students had taken pledge to say ‘No’ to ragging. The teachers also created awareness among students regarding Ragging and its effect. The Academic Bursar, Administrative Bursar, Examination OIC and anti-ragging committee members were present and sensitize the students about it. The principal madam told the students that our institution is like a temple and we have to maintain a safe, inclusive and respectful environment. We should give love, affection and take care of our juniors and they will definitely give us the same. The meeting was ended with a vote of thanks by Smt Nilima Bhitria, Jr Lecture of History. This Day was a successful day by sensitizing students in a meaningful way.
